Truck just dies??

I had the thread a few days ago about my AE not hooking up to a '97. Got that all figured out and replaced a CPS after getting a P0344 code. Truck then ran fine for a few days but now its dying. This is not my truck so I don't have exact details but the just of it is that it ran fine after the CPS change. Then when idling today it just died, then later on it died driving down the road and would not start and had to be towed home....

What should I be looking for?? She said she did get a CEL so I will try to scan it again in the next few days to get codes, but other than that I'm kind of lost. It has a chip of some kind in it so I'm thinking that should be pulled as well to rule it out, (would make sense if that was the problem). Also the CPS is Motorcraft from Ford.

If it set a CEL its not the CPS ... Make sure the chip is seated properly ... Get the code ? CPS will set a soft code , so it is something else . 344 could simply be from extended crank

P0344 code was Camshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Intermittent (Bank 1 or Single Sensor)

The code was a soft code, not sure if it is a soft or hard code this time.

Ok I think I'm confused. I consider a soft code when you get a CEL but it goes away?? And why would the code say "camshaft position sensor" if it had nothing to do with the CPS? And why after getting that code and the truck not starting, would it then start after changing the CPS?

A soft code is when a code is set/stored but doesn't set a CEL

The first issue could have been a CPS problem. Extended cranking can/will set a CPS code but it will now set a CEL.
