Motorcraft Water pump quality vs price

Motorcraft Water pump quality vs price
My water pump had an epic blow out and is sitting at the in laws house. I have a buddy who is a Ford mechanic who helps me from time to time and he states I should only get a Motorcraft water pump or else he won't help. Since I have to have it towed to get it worked on, is a Motorcraft water pump better than other water pumps? I called Auto Nation, where i have over the years ordered parts below what they have listed on line, and they want $290 for a water pump, not including the piece that attached to the bottom of the pump for the lower radiator hose ($75). I could tackle the job outside myself, thank to the help on this forum, but temperatures have been too frigid...and I like the cold! Nice dilemma, eh?
I found a price of $190 on Amazon without the lower piece, but was wondering if there is a better price anywhere on a motorcraft pump with the lower piece or alternative water pump that I could or should get?

I just replaced mine with a Murray pump from Oreilly's. Came with lifetime warranty, main seal, thermostat gasket, new lower discharge tube & gasket for it & only cost $130. The quality looked very good, it has an aluminum impeller & looked identical to the factory one I took off.

I bought a Motorcraft water pump from Riffraff. Best price I could find. When you get it, inspect all cavities and veins. I had to remove a huge flake of metal on mine that blocked ~1/3 of the hole fluid travels through. Definitely check the two screws. Mine were loose! I pulled both, put thread lock on them and reinstalled them tight. The screws backed out on the original pump. Catastrophic failure.

I left a message for Clay, but wanted to know if the IH pump included the lower outlet elbow or not. Regardless, I'll call him again today and order it, just want to make sure I get everything I need on one order.
Thanks for the advice on checking the screws and cavities on the water pump Jason!

If you decide on a cast iron IH water pump, you will have to be prepared to tweak your own non pre formed generic lower hose, because the outlet to the IH pump is on the opposite side of Ford's pump.
If you have dual alternators, the IH pump will not likely fit well at all.
