Fuel Pressure Restriction Switch leaking

Hey all,

Another quick question. I noticed this past weekend one of the fleet trucks was dripping out of the fuel restriction switch.

Located here:

Not sure many of you have had this issue before, but I could not find a new one on RiffRaff, and wanted to get an OEM replacement. If any of you have had to do this fix previously do you have any pointers? I figure I'll just pull the fuel bowl and rebuild it including fuel lines, orings, and what not, but I'd like to find a good OEM switch to put back in that will not leak. The leak currently is a drip about every 3 seconds, but knowing the company's luck it will ignite before evaporating and I want to get this fixed asap. Have a good place to order one from? Stealership want a set of nuts and a leg for one.

Thanks again

Needless to say, your attachment didn't post. But if it's the sensor that turns on the fuel filter light that you're talking about, you can just replace it with a plug and, well, change your fuel filter promptly.

It has now. I did not know that was the purpose of the sensor, but now that you have said it, it makes perfect sense. Thank you, probably still going to replace it, or maybe just try cranking it down a tad bit more with some teflon tape on it and see if that solves the issue before getting a new one.

If you have a dealer near you International has them for about 1/2 the cost of what Ford demands.

Yep. Delete that bad boy and regiment fuel filter changes. Don't break the bowl tightening it too much though.

Don't crank it down too much as you will break the housing. It usually leaks out by the electrical connection and not the threads.

As stated you can replace it with a pipe plug, but I like to keep it on there. I got a motorcraft one off Ebay for around $45.

All good info. I'll will find a new switch and just fix it up right. If it were my truck I'd plug it, actually the entire bowl would be gone, but for now we will fix it back to the way it was since it a company fleet truck.

Thanks a ton guys! Learned something once again from here!

WHATEVER YOU DO DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN IT! Ask me how I know. Someone before me overtightened mine and put teflon on the threads, and it cracked the housing. You will be sticker shocked into the ground if you have to buy a new one from ford. Well over 3 bills if I recall.

Forgive the all caps, I just don't want to see someone in the position I was in. Thankfuly another member here sent me one for nothing. I only wish that some day I will be in the position to help someone else in that way.

Good to know. looks like a crank past finger tight and some FORD grey rtv for the plug if we go that route.

Thanks for the heads up

One more thing. I'm headed down this weekend to fix the leak, truck has just been sitting for about a week now. I wanted to bring a plug with me vs pulling the switch and then trying to go and find one.

Any of you know the diameter and pitch of that plug? Is it just a typical 1/4 NPT fine plug?
