You might be surprised........space is at a premium here, getting anymore open space will require a logging crew.
I was lucky to find room for it behind the house, with 5 rigs here, my driveway space is maxed out.

You don't want anything made by Mopar or Jaguar.
The Rangers look run hard and put up wet.
The 2000 Taurus looks best.

Figured as much on the rangers. The jags probably would not be too bad if parts were cheaper and more available. I have been in several of that time period, seen a few oddball problems come through.

http://www.welshent.com/index.php?cPath=544_568_569 these guys seem to have ok prices

British cars are a curse........If British cars are so great, how come all the cars in a street scene in England are German?
The one 85 4x4 Ranger with the 2.8 might make a interesting project.

Good evening Oregon and everyone everywhere else. Lets scratch today and start over, better yet, lets just skip today!

I'm not so sure on the Taurus. Folks have had a few problems with theirs. My aunt had to have her tranny rebuilt at about 85,000. We have had a few problems with the Mercury counter part - Sable.

Pay real close attention to the tranny. Known for tranny problems. Dents in hood don't bode well. If that kind of car appeals to you, check out O.K. Motor Sales and Towing on Hwy 18 in Sheridan. Last I looked, they had 3 or 4 Taurus's in their yard, for sale, that appeared to be in much better shape. Haven't priced them but I suspect they may want closer to $4 or $5K for them.

[Edit: O.K. may be on Craigs List for Yamhill County - they are "on again off again" as far as Craig's list goes]

Best, but not great, I agree.
My 96 T-bird is 3 times the car of a Taurus of that time period.

Because they are cheap? Seriously, Mercedes is cheap overseas and ford is expensive. My gramdparents spent a month touring, more people than countable said they would love to own a ford if they had the money, but all had mercs.

Didnt ford have a problem with tranny and brakes from 2000-04? In rangers, 150's and some cars?

EDIT: project? How much of a project are you talking about?

Read my sig.........I have been running a 84 Ranger 4x4 2.8 V-6 for almost half a million miles.
If you have a good truck to start with, parts are pretty cheap, and the carbed 2.8 V-6 can be modified with good ol' hot-rodding tech........no computers, no EFI.

Another problem with that Taurus is the Washington plates. If you are going to have it "living" in Oregon you are looking at $200 in title, transfer, plates, VIN inspection and registration fees right out of the bag. In two years you will be blessed with only an $86 +- renewal fee.

Give me a dollar figure estimate on how much to make it a dependable daily driver. Please.

Almost impossible.......depends on the condition of the motor and trans........I recently "refreshed" my 2.8 and 5spd manual for under $1,900 total, and that included a hi-po cam, Offenhauser 4bbl intake manifold, 390 holley 4v carb, new pistons .040 over, port and polish, and headers..........But I knew exactly what I had to start with.
The body, interior, rear axle, are pretty much bullet proof.......they age well.
