Any words of wisdom ????
Cooling unit is shot. Time to replace the fridge. Cost more to install a new cooling unit than replace the whole damn thing. Just went through it with one of mine.......

Just talked with my buddy Mike Weimer and he finished harvest yesterday. Only got 19 bushels/acre. Normal yield is 48 bushels/acre. Looks like another year of a check from the insurance Co...

Good morning Don........I agree. I looked at troubleshooting guides at the Fridge company's site.......dead cooling unit.

I did find a place that sells remanufactured cooling units for $500 incl shipping. New fridge from Dometic at Camper World is $1200 - $1400. What is your opinion ?

Buy the time you buy the unit and pay a tech $100-$150/hour to install it you would be close to what a new unit costs. I'm just going to install a new fridge...

I am going to do the work myself......
The company gives a 2 yr warranty on the cooling unit.
I just not sure the best way to go.

We have been talking about getting a 14 cu ft (about) electric fridge and put it in the "garage" before the trip to Alaska. We are going Fridge shopping today and maybe do that now. That will solve the immediate problem and I can tackle the RV Fridge once we get home next weekend.

#1. Will the company honor the warranty if you do the work yourself?

#2. Do you know you'll have to cut into the old unit and solder in the new, leak test, etc?

I'm certified in refrigeration and have all the tools, gauges, etc, and I won't work on one of these..... Just saying...

These units contain water, ammonia, and hydrogen gas in precise amounts also. I'll work on regular units, but not these...

1 and 3/4 and counting!!!!

Good morning Oregon and everyone everywhere else. Had another late night yesterday and didn't give up and quit working on stuff until midnight. MIL and Diana's uncle are raising holy H*_l, making life miserable and doing everything they can to prevent us from taking our trip. Diana says we are going! (I am prevented by forum rules by using her exact wording..........

Have to replace a tail light and get the camper on the pickup today. "Things" interfered with getting it on yesterday.

We plan on it. We are going to have a 2 week, "NO RELATIVES" exclusionary zone. (With the exception of our kids and grandkids.) It has been made know that "incursions" will be met with force, violators will be shot, survivors will be shot again!

Very good points........Thanks !
I too, in the past, was certified in refrigeration system (freon). I can do the silver soldering ........but your point of working with the chemicals these gas absorption units use.......Hummmmm....No fun.

Thanks again Don. It is good to see the picture through other's eyes that know what they are doing.

Have fun Roy - and everyone else. Off to replace a tail light, load the camper on the pickup, wash the car and do some irrigating.

The fridge in my old class C motorhome had the cooling unit go belly up, there was a real bad stink of ammonia, luckily we have a good (and cheap) RV service place in Springfield that replaced it (the cooling unit) AND stood behind their work, total cost was about $500.
