I'm back. Had a computer upgrade that kept nagging me for a restart, so I thought I would do it and get it out of the way. Had a bit of a hiccup with the restart................more like a major gasp. Froze on the Starting Windows screen. Had to hard reboot. Then it said something in the system files was goofed up and I needed to do a start up repair.......never seen that screen before. Spent quite sometime on the startup repair and then it kicked up and said it couldn't find anything wrong and shut the computer down.
Restarted and everything seems to be fine. Running a full system backup and personal files backup to the external hard drives right now.

Yuk, Yuk, Yuk........................the key point is that, minus the sinking feeling in the stomach, it did restart without a mechanics intervention!
It's all good. The diesel Vs Gas thingy is about like talking preferences on a 30-06 Vs a 300 Win Mag Vs. a .308, and just for Dave, 7.62 X 39.
The problem is that I use my pickup quite a bit, so better gas mileage by 4.5 to 5 MPH under normal operating conditions is important. My 460 had the power but never got over 10 MPH on a good day, in neutral coasting downhill with a tail wind. Put a heavy boat, trailer or camper on it and..............
I may have just gotten lucky, but the diesel I have has been really low maintenance compared to my previous gas rigs and according to the excel spread sheet I keep on it, so far the total cost per mile is less than my last gas rig.

30.06 VS .300 Win mag?............30.06 all the way, my .300 kicks so hard, it makes my gums bleed.
.308 vs 7.62 x39mm?............. 7.62 x 39mm all the way! you can actually AFFORD 7.62x39mm!
As for the Ranger bash...........I guess that's what you get when you start looking for parts for a 30yr old truck that has a German engine, Japanese transmission, Mexican sheetmetal, American axles, assembled in Canada.

Actually, Dave, I believe I have spent less on my current truck on maintenance issues than any other I've owned. It's dead-on reliable.
When I took off for St. Louis last October I didn't even change the oil first. Just checked the inflations, turned the key, and went.
Of course, that's not saying that something couldn't happen that would require getting out the Buks-zoo-ka, but like my sig file says.......
This one isn't costing me money, at least not yet, but with 220,000 on the clock, I never know.
But it's giving me no "hints".

I get very uncomfortable talking about how well any of my vehicles have been running or how little they have been costing. Murphy resides in the spare bedroom and I sure don't want him finding out!!!!!!

I find with the 460, 10mpg is the dead lowest I have gotten with the camper on it and pulling the boat, 12.5 was completely empty with a tailwind all the way to Portland up I -5
Like some say, "with a 460, it's 10mpg loaded, unloaded, around town, on the highway......."
I asked a guy who had a 2008 Dodge with the Cummins about his mpg, he says about 14-16mpg..........Not enough to me to buy 5 gallons of oil at maint. interval.

All these years you have been told it's your shadow, now you know..........It's Murphy following you around.

My Ruger 77 .300 Win mag is flat-out brutal..........My Browing BAR .338 Win mag is just a gentle nudge in comparison.
THE WORST kicking bolt rifle I have ever fired was my Dads Browning A-bolt featherweight in .30-06........5 1/2lbs of concentrated Mike Tyson.

My Ruger M77R featherweight in '06, with any bullet weight over 165gr is probably just as brutal as the 300 Win Mag. It is manageable. My daughter shot her first elk with it and still calls it "her" rifle. If a girl can handle it..........................................

Is it ported or have a recoil pad?............That A-bolt sure wasn't and didn't!
Maybe with layers of clothes, a winter jacket, and adrenaline flowing you wouldn't let the recoil with 180gr loads bother you, but in July, off a rest at the range, in a T-shirt...........OUCH!!!

No Port, but the Ruger 06 does have the recoil pad. Early model, 1978. No, it is not a T-Shirt Rifle, not for long anyway. I have a light shooting jacket that does O.K. though.
I have yet to shoot anything at a deer or elk that I can recall feeling the recoil on, including the 2 shots out of the 300 Win Mag this year. I seem to recall the recoil from the .54 cal Muzzle Loader at the deer, but not the Win mag. Too busy keeping the scope on the animal and recovering the sight picture, which come to think of it, I don't really recall loosing, although I know I had to have. With the .54 cal I was busy moving a couple of feet to the side so I could see around the smoke.
Time to take advantage of the sunshine.

Dave, I was just trying to kid around with you. Not being serious in any way. I really like the OBS trucks and as I stated before the 460 is a fine engine. It all boils down to personal preference and what fits the individual.
