What's your thoughts on the 6.4 diesel guys? Been reading some about it, looks like it has its quirks.....

Looking at a truck that I would buy if it works out.....

Delete immediately. This takes care of most problems.
Still see electronic failures, the HPFP included, and it's not fun to change.
But for the right price........

If you decide to do it, pull the good parts off your 05 before trading it in. I know someone who will grab that tuned ficm and possibly the radio.

Thoughts on getting a new water heater? Mine is just about done and I will need one soon. Anyone running a tankless?

Everything I've read says their good and powerful, but when they break, it's expensive. Saw a 2008 Crew Dually with blown motor for $20k on CL. Has 160 k miles.

That makes it easier, otherwise you'd need a $$$$ water filter system.
I looked into it for my mother in law a few years ago. Biggest pain in the *** part is the venting. There's two styles out there, one will run two 3" pipes (one intake, one exhaust), the other is a single double wall 5" pipe to do both. If I remember correctly the exhaust needs to be an insulated pipe, a gas tank type style exhaust pipe won't cut it. Also need a 3/4" gas line to feed it.
I also read that in Michigan code states that it must be mounted to an outside wall, but I've seen several here in newer homes that weren't, and nothing from the manufacturers that state to do so. If you're doing this yourself that's no big deal, but you might hear that from a plumber not wanting to do the install from scratch.

Thanks for the info Chad. I'd do it myself, tankless or traditional. Sounds like a bit of a pain for the tankless, I'd have to run the intake and the exhaust to the back of the house(closest exterior wall) which is maybe 12'. The current traditional chimney vent is about 3' away. 3/4" gas feed wouldn't be a prob, the 3/4" line runs right above the current water heater. The space savings would be kind of nice since the basement isn't huge.

Hmm, still have time to think about it.

I was going to go tankless... my neighbor is a master plumber, he said no way, since I have well water, that keeping them clean is a large pain in the ****. So, I went up the street to Bradford White and got me a screamin' deal on a tank one.

Myself, I will do tankless when my water heater dies. Sadly they don't make them like they used to. I have already replaced both heater elements in it. Dang thing is only 2 years old, was about 14months in when the first one went...

But you have OCD, so you'll keep it clean. Me? Not so much.
