Dura grapplers, the highway tires. Since my truck became my daily driver and I run about 400-500 miles a week I am tired of the AT tires year round, I run pavement most of the time. I do a little light off roading during deer season. I have my stock wheels with terra grapplers still in decent shape so ill run them Dec-Feb ish. curious to see if anyone has them and how they like em.

thinking about the dura grappers 285 75 17 on my 17x9 MT classic black wheels. I currently have on 315 70 17 dune which are actually doing very well.

Looks like a lot of views but no replies. That is probably because the Dura isn't a very popular tire. I'm running Terra Grapplers right now, but you know all about them from your own use. My neighbor had a set of Dura Grapplers on his 03 Excursion a few years ago and that is my only experience with them. They are a nice street tire and do fine in the rain, but they are basically worthless in the snow and mud. I guess that is the trade-off for getting much better wear than the Terra Grappler.

For the majority of my use, I should be using the Dura instead of the Terra, but I can't stand the embarrassment of having to use 4wd in wet grass!

 

agreed haha owell, i have seen very good reviews on other forums, but i am only a member of FTE. most off roading i do is gravel roads and occasional fields mostly my own property but if i am down in my fields i am on my 4x4 JD and not normally in my truck. as i said i was thinking of running them through the spring summer months. i like the terra's but they wore down very very quickly for me, took em off at 39k and didnt have much left on em.

 

Most all terrains suck in snow and ice anyway, somewhat better than Street tires but no comparison to true snow tires. If you have two sets of rims and don't drive in mud I'd get streets and snows. People only run at tires year round because they can't afford 2 sets or are too lazy to change them. You can get by pretty easy with at tires if you know how to drive, have 4x4 and live where its flat but if you have hills or lots of ice you will notice definite improvement if you use snow tires like blizzacks.

 

Um.....not everybody lives in crappy weather areas. So why should I buy a second set of rims and tires for the 2 times every 3 years that 1" of snow falls on the ground???

 

I LOVED my dura's, best tire I ran on my F350's. For me I doubled the amount of km's on a set of tires with them. Good traction in the winter as well. Quiet tire and I also found them to be very nice looking.

 

thanks, i really have not seen bad reviews on them. with the amount of driving i am doing i would rather run that tire for 7-8 months and run my stock wheels with the terra's on them the other months or just go with another AT tire that will probably only get 45k or so.

 

Haha, valid point. I was referring to people in crappy weather areas though. They still run ATs year round. I used too as well but then I got aftermarket rims and keep the stocks and thought id try them once. World of difference!

 

run6.0run ran a set but he found they wore out quick for him and his was all highway. I normally only got about 20-25k km's(1 year) out of a set of tires and my dura's lasted me roughly 50k km's and 2 years. I had just put a second set on my truck when I traded it in for my dually which I also put duras on then I sold it though.

 

What about the Toyo Open Country AT II? I don't have first hand experience with them but my uncle has a some (OEM Size or slightly bigger) on CC 6.4 KR 4X4 and drives 122 miles total to and from work every day. He also uses them on the bad roads at his Deer lease that have been known to stick some 4X4's with factory tires. He has 38k on them so far and they literally look brand new. They are quiet and track well but aired down they grab really good. I am going to get some 35x12.50 's with a Carli leveling kit When I'm done paying off Christmas...hopefully before next Christmas!

 

I have General Grabber HTS on my wifes escalade. They are a great highway tire. Now my parents have put them on both their vehicles and like them. If I had a major highway commute I would buy them for my f350 in a second. Just another option to consider. They aren't bad in the snow or rain either but I'm not an idiot agressive driver. They ever work fine on the beach air'd down.

 

I am looking at those tires as well. I am considering two options. run both a summer and winter tire or just go with another AT tire and round it year round. option #2 will most likely be the toyo ATII.
