Question on wires under 2nd row left seat.

Was wondering if anyone could help me identify the wires under the left 2nd row seat. Question is, is this factory or aftermarket. It's a 2000 limited and it has the small tv overhead and an aftermarket head unit. Could I get the tv to work with the aftermarket head unit.

Also there is a bundle of wires that are cut off.

Looks like they had a VCR/DVD installed under the 2nd row seat at some point. Can you get us a pic of the overhead monitor? Some had the DVD player mounted next to the monitor..others had them under the seat (I think it depended on who installed it - was it OEM vs. did a prior owner have a shop install it).

Looks like the power wire:

...depends...does the aftermarket head unit even support it? You'd need to Google the manufacturer and model number to tell. Many aftermarket HUs that do support it usually (if they are single-din) require some kind of box that connects to the HU and to the monitors. If the aftermarket is a double-din, it may already be there but you would need to get the proper wiring harness.

NOTE: I don't know this for sure, but I have read in other threads that many of the older monitors on our trucks had proprietary wiring (not just simple RCA or S Video connectors). Even if your head unit supports it, you may need to buy a conversion harness (if you can find one) and/or do some custom wiring to get it all to work. Newer aftermarket setups just use RGB RCAs, Video/L/R RCA jacks or S Video style connectors. Seeing as our trucks ceased to be manufactured after 2005 and the technology jump between then and now, finding harnesses will get harder and harder. If you go from an aftermarket HU to an aftermarket monitor, the odds of finding something that's compatible go way up.

Agreed...I guessed it might have been the control connection from the head unit? Funny though, I had a Sony MobileES unit that controlled something like DVD, VCR, 2 CD changers, 2 MiniDisk Changers and a few NSA satellites...and it didn't have a connector with that many pins.

I'm on the road and had pics on my phone from when I was last home and the X is parked at the terminal(to far for the wife to go take pics for me). I believe it was dealer installed cause the overhead is separate from the tv but looks like a ford item. And for the life of me I can picture the name on it but can't remember it. Also it has 2(what look like tv antennas stuck to the inside of the back side glass.

So in all honestly it would be best to start form scratch and go all new. To make it a lot easier on connection and wiring. That's kinda was my plan anyways but was just trying to get it running for the time being. The HU most likely doesn't support it cause it's an older sony HU, single din.

Yea, unless it was a MobileES series, the odds of it having a controller are slim.

It might be worth it just to get a pro installer to at least take a look at what you have...you never know - they may be able to work some magic and save it.

It's only a 7" screen so to take It to a pro I think I'm just wasting time and money till I can get all new. Would like to have a 12" screen because my oldest son and daughter love sitting in the 3rd row.
