Anyone own a 250 SCAB/SC Gasser
All
Im looking to replace my 150 that was written off last week. Some nice old lady thought she run a red. But I have a couple trucks in line, but have found a 06 FX4 5.4 SCAB and a 07 SCREW 5.4. And would like to know what people think of them that they own. Spoke to one fella that owns a SCAB and says his milage is not bad at 15-19 KPG.
thanks

You are going to want to spring for the crew cab unless you never plan on having anyone ride in the back. What makes you want to upsize to a Super Duty? The 5.4L V8 will not move an F250 anywhere near as quick as it will an F150 because of the weight disparity.
If you're light on the pedal you may be able to eek out 15-16 L/100KM on the highway, but much more than that is going to be difficult. I've had F150s, an F250, and an F350 in the past, and you can see what I drive now. I think you'll be happier with another F150 if it meets your needs. Much better ride, handling, and fuel economy. Of course nothing tows like a Super Duty though.

I like to stay with a 150 My last one was a 00 xlt Flare side SCAB. So ive have people in the back. And its mostly the wife and I in the truck. Unless we go do the hunt and fish stuff. With the grand kids. But Im just waiting on the insurance will give. I don't like the newer trucks so much. Prefer 97-03s in style and they look like a truck.
I had an '03 F150 that I liked, but comparing that with my '13 isn't even close. Likewise comparing my '00 Excursion to my '11 F350 is similarly disparate. Looks aside I really think the new trucks do just about everything better. Of course it all depends on your budget as well.
If you do pick a Super Duty try and find one with the V10. The fuel economy is slightly worse, but the ~25% bump in power and torque makes a huge difference in how they drive. If you choose an '04-present F150 I would opt for the 5.4L V8 to get the more powerful 3V engine that's surprisingly efficient with the variable cam timing.

just traded in my 13 F150 KR Maxtow 4x4, CC, 6.5bed for a 14 SD. These trucks are night/day when it comes to towing/solid feel. I was only getting 10 towing with the EB and my truck bed was too bouncy for me towing the boat,,the SD is rock solid and dont feel the boat and it gets just as good tow mpg's as the EB. No doubt the F150 has come a long way from earlier models. I just got tired of the vibrations/CAC issues/poor mpg's/.bouncy bed

My perspective has been a bit different, to be honest I think my F150 handles pretty close to how my Super Duties have with a trailer. Of course my opinion is in the minority, but I've had 12,000 lbs behind my F150 and have never felt uncomfortable with it. Of course the added size of the Super Duty helps band-aid a sub-optimal towing setup.
Wow, you got guts to haul 12k with a F150. My maxtow was rated for 11,100 but there is no way in heck I would even consider that. I know I could add some mods to maybe have helped the handling but towing my 21ft bass boat would just make my bed/rear bounce around, never felt out of control or anything just more sensitive to the truck.

But don't just take my word for it, a few other Super Duty owners pulled with my truck that day, you should ask them how it handled.

Newer trucks just don't appeal to me Id go for a 04-8 maybe. But the bumper is still low for my liking. Plus the older 5.4s don't have those stupid plugs and phasers. I know the newer 250 have them, but what can you do.. But a diesel would also be over the edge for me, the new diesels need about 5 k to get it bullet proof. The older trucks look like trucks, This my old girl.

Both the '06 and '07 Super Duty trucks that you mentioned in your first post have both two-piece plugs and cam phasers.
