I haven't been on here much for the last few years, but I have an excuse. I've been building a barn, and now a house in upstate SC. We bought the property about 7 years ago, and finally got around to breaking ground.

The barn is 28 X 48, and the headroom downstairs is over 12' so I can install a lift. The slab is reinforced for that purpose as well. The loft has full 8' headroom. I built the barn first, and have been living in it while I build the house. It has a bathroom, but no heat or A/C.

The house is a very simple small ranch, but very energy efficient. Construction is ICF (Insulated Concrete Forms). There is a full walk-out basement as well. Wiring and plumbing are done, and I'm working on drywall. The outside finish is waiting for warmer, drier weather.

The whole project is designed and built by me, with some help on the big stuff. We are doing it out-of-pocket, so no mortgage! We have 7 acres here, with a good mountain view in the winter. I need to get done so I can concentrate more on my '72!

wow nice. really nice. more pics plz. I bet it's nice to have that much room between you and your neighbors. Someday i'll have more than 10 feet between my house and my neighbors. Congrats. And the no mortgage part is real nice too.
