6 volt elec. fuel pumps

I was looking around on the interweb and found a site that had a 6 volt f/p. Kinda dismissed it at the time, but later got to thinking if it would be a good idea. They run about 40 bucks or so. I was looking for the cheapest mechanical pump , they all go for about 80 or so.Was wondering what you folks think. The diaphragm is pretty much toast on mine, not to mention full of crud and wotnot. Spose I'd have to make a cover for the block if I went electric. They have some on E-bay and claim they were used on older Lincolns and such.I remember my dads truck vapor locking a lot in the summer back when I was a wee lad.He always had a jug of water handy and a few choice words for such a situation. Thanks for any input fellas.
