2007 Expedition EL liftgate issue and check engine lght
Wanted to see if there was anyone that had experience with this.
We have a 2007 Expedition EL, 100k miles on it.
The liftgate will open and close with the remote and the on-dash button. However, if I close it with any buttons, I always get "liftgate ajar" on the dash. In order to make that go away, I have to open the liftgate, let it open all the way and shut it hard, almost slamming it.
Anyone have an idea what would be the cause?

Also, we recently had the check engine light come on. Had it read and it said it was the pass side cat converter. Had the light reset to see if it would come back on. It took quite a while then came back on for a few days, then off again for awhile. If this was an actual issue, would it not stay on? Could it just be a glitch and it comes on briefly?
Thanks for your time

Had issues with my 07 liftgate it'd give me that msg (typically the glass would pop open too). It would also open itself up if you left it unlocked and didn't disable the power liftgate. Turned out that the wire from the pull handle got pinched by the steel retainers on the plastic inner and it would short out from time to time - finally found it when the gate wouldn't open when you pulled the handle.
If you remove the inner plastic (open the glass and remove the screw and retention plastic tab first - leave the glass open and then open the lifgate) you'll likely see a 2-wire connector that got jammed into a clip hole behind the plastic, pull it out, tape the wires and be more careful than the factory was when you put the plastic back in place.
