Do all 3v 5.4 cam phasers fail
Just bought my truck a couple of months ago and love it except for when i went thru the spark plug change.. Ive been reading alot about the cam phasers failing and was wondering if there are any people out there with over 150k that have NOT had any problems with them? Or is it pretty much just a matter of time?

Although I'm not at 150k yet, my 2007 F-150 Lariat that I got with 42,000 on it in early 2010 now has almost 108,000 on it and it's just as quiet as it was then. Just as long as you keep up with regular maintenance and always use a good 5W-20 oil and Motorcraft oil filters and it will really help them last. A lot of them have failed by using aftermarket oil filters because they restrict the phasers of proper oil pressure to the head, which can cause them to fail.

ok I was just wondering about it and my oil gets changed at 3000 miles or 3 month which ever comes first and I do use 5w20 like recommended. I went to my ford buddy and had him pull the tsb for the cam phasers and how to test for them going bad and mine dosnt show any sign of them being bad and he also said to put a oil pressure gauge in it to make sure I don't lose oil pressure so I going to do that this weekend and make sure I can tell what my oil pressure is doing when I pop the hood and check my fluids for the week like clock work every sunday night he said the oil gauge on the dash dosnt work at all just for looks

That's a good idea. I'm actually installing an Auto-Meter electrical oil pressure gauge in the cab on mine sometime next week. According to Ford, these engines should have 25 PSI or more of oil pressure at idle when the engine is up to operating temp. Anywhere below that can also cause cam phaser issues as well.

thanks for the response on this and I was wondering if lucas oil would help it out some on start up just the other day my truck was sounding like a diesel till it got warmed up and then went away but still had a slight knocking knoise or ticking and it is not the injectors on it cant really pinpoint where it is exact but I sounds like it is coming from driver side head thinking its just a noisy valve train but im not sure it is vary slight and im a little corky about my engines and how they run
