Oil filter cap help.

I was told that my oil filter cap is not OEM Style. Who sells the OEM Style cap or does the OEM filters come with a new one each time like the 7.3?

Local Ford dealer. If a cap comes with a filter then neither one is OEM.

Easiest is to go to a dealer. I believe this is the correct part number 3C3Z-6766-CA, but I tossed the paperwork when I bought one recently.

No, the cap (OEM style) does not come with the filter, but Wix uses a combo cap filter that does not interchange with oem.

I just went through this on my 2005, and had a aftermarket filter with Oem cap. There is enough difference between oem filters and aftermarket that I would oly use Motorcraft filters.

The 03 I just bought had an aftermarket cap. Looked the same until I tried to remove the filter and it broke off in the cap. Got one from the dealer and put a Motorcraft filter back in it.

You can get a Dorman oil filter cap at any parts supplier like O'Reillys, Advance etc.

You really think the cap is manufactured that far off from OEM?

In my experience Dorman quality has been all over the place. Specializing in kinda odd, low volume parts manufactured by other people. From clutch linkage springs to window cranks you never know what you just bought until you try to use it.

Agreed. When I bought my truck I needed the cap as well. I seen that Autozone had the Dorman Caps, but I just couldn't pull the trigger. I know it is just a Plastic Cap, but with the way my luck goes, it would of failed for sure. I just waited to the next morning and got a Motorcraft one.
