Put a price on it

I go through Craigslist ads from all over the country a couple of times a week just to kill time. I have seen these trucks from $50,000 down to $500 and everywhere in between. I see people bash the asking price of trucks on here a lot, so it made me wonder...

How much would you realistically expect to get if you HAD to sell your truck?

I will start. In my area, dent sides are pretty sought after and reasonably decent trucks can be had around the $4,000 mark. I would probably expect to get around $2,000 if I had to sell it. I will NOT sell it, but if circumstances forced the issue, that is my asking price.

In the condition it sits I'd ask $1200 to $1500 and realistically expect to take $800-$1000

If I absolutely had to sell my truck I'd have to sell it for $1000, but if someone offered $800 I'd take it since that is what I payed for it.

My logic for here in Southern California is this: Any vehicle that runs, is worth $1000, anything that runs and is smoggable is worth $1000-1500, anything running, smoggable, and 4x4 is worth $1000-$2000. Anything after that is cosmetics, on up.

I paid $1000 for mine, put almost $1000 into it so far, but i realistically feel that i could hope to get $1500-$2000, based on local CL listings

Kind of an unrealistic question. I didn't have to sell my black 250 but the price was just under 20K so I sold it. Prices range so much on these and a lot depends on the overall condition and where the truck is/has been located.. I've sold my share of 79's and have got very good money for them.

As far as the Bronco, I have no plans to part with it now. Way to many NOS pieces on it that can not be replaced.

A loaded question for sure. Lots of variables, but my truck does not carry a monetary value to me. It is the time I put into it. It is nothing beautiful on the outside yet, but it's a work in progress. I rebuilt the motor myself so that has meaning to me. My father gave me the truck; another priceless event.

And, the sound of the exhaust that can be heard and felt when the 460 gets a throttle full of fuel is priceless.

I do kick around on craigslist to see what they sell for around here. F250 Camper Special super cans don't pop up in large numbers, but they are priced from $900 to $2500. I have seen one priced at $6800. I could not see where they came up with that price. :|

There is one that has been posted for almost 2 years now. It has a zebra looking paint job. 75 f250 super cab, 2WD, lifted, 390v8. Started at $3000 2 years ago, now is listed for $1000.

I, too, am in Florida. As mentioned, these trucks cost more down here. For my '76, I could get $6,000. For my '79, rusted to hell, but runs great and 4wd works, probably $2,000.

I was in Idaho around Thanksgiving and was looking at trucks and some that in Florida would sell for about $5,000 were in Idaho for $2,000. I'd have 5 old ford trucks if they were that cheap here!

I know this is a bit off topic, but it does have to do with asking prices and real values, on Dents.

I talked with a buddy, Bob, this afternoon, who lives in Portland, Oregon. Within the last month he PAID $4,800 for a '79 Ranger XLT 2wd truck. Found the truck on Craigslist, where the owner was asking $5,200.
The truck was a one owner well cared for, with a documented 50,000 miles. It is a F-250 standard cab Camper Special. Has a 400 C-6 combo.
According to Bob, the truck looks and drives as new. It is a two-tone, red with a black insert.

Here are some local ads from CL for ones similar to mine The last one actually is mine from the ad when I bought it. You see they were asking $2000 but I traded a $700 car for it sooooo you can always ask what you want doesn't mean they will sell for that

Mines not completed yet but I have about 6K total invested. I'd never sell mine but I'd sure as heck part it out. It'd be the only way to possibly get 3K of my investment back. If I just sold the truck around here I may only get $1500 total for it as it sits.
