High pressure oil test via IPR

I want to do a high pressure oil test on my 07 6.0. I do not have a scan tool to close the ipr and also do not want to have to cut the wire to command it closed with 12 volts.

I came across this tool from accuratew diesel, but cannot find anyone using it. 6.0L High Pressure Oil System IPR Air Test Fitting

This seems easier to just unscrew the ipr and then screw this in an apply air. Also I do not have to worry about burning up the ipr by having it closed for too long. Will this work? Do I just unscrew the ipr and scew this in and apply air and this will pressurize the entire high pressure oil system?

This might be a cheaper option:
Amazon.com: OTC 6764 Injector Pressure Regulator Controller for Ford 6.0L Diesel Engine: Automotive Amazon.com: OTC 6764 Injector Pressure Regulator Controller for Ford 6.0L Diesel Engine: Automotive

IIRC you're going to get at least some air leaking on the shaft seal on the pump, so even if the IPR leaks a little air, you should be able to hear large leaks under the valve covers with the IPR commanded closed.

I was thinking about that too, but ultimately you can only close the valve for a short period of time correct?

Will the ipr air tester work just as good?

It's just a really expensive plug. The IPR can handle straight 12 volts in short bursts no problem.

could you explain where the shaft seal is? I have read about being normal to leak there, but am having a hard time finding a picture of it.

It's internal to the pump, on the shaft to the gear. I don't think you'd see it, you'd just hear a minor leak on the back of the pump around the gear.
