4x4 light stuck on
hey i have an 05 f250 lariat with a 6.0 diesel, 103k miles, anyways i was pulling out a bush stump in 4 wheel drive (by switch and locked hubs), when i went to switch the selector switch to 2wheel, the light stayed on. Now when i need 4wd i just lock the hubs and it engages, the selector switch doesnt do anything ( i can hear something under the truck like its trying to engage) any ideas?

Try unlocking your hubs to auto, switching back and forth from 2 hi to 4 hi and back. With the system unloaded, any tension can cause the shift motor on the t-spaces to jam. The other thing to try is in neutral, go all the way to 4low, then 4 Hi, the 2 hi. You have to play with it a bit, it's like trying to shift the t case, if there is preload on the gears they don't easily release. If this doesn't work I wonder if your shift solenoid so for the case are blown or a fuse on the case shift circuits?

If the above does not work for you then you may ned to have a look at the shift
motor. Un-bolt it and see if you can get the motor drive tang to change positions.
Then go back to where it was so that you can reinstall it. If the motor won't
move under power then it time for a new one. If it does then you may want to
see if you can move the selector with the motor out of the way. Be gentle and
even try turning the front drive shaft by hand. Most likely it the motor and not
the transfer case. Send me a PM later today and I'll see if I can pull the PDF up
for you. The 2006 should be very close to the 2005.

Frankie ill go with the switch in southern Mo we have been hit with a lot of
Snow so been using the 4wd a lot and about every 3-4 times of engaging disengaging
It will stay in 4wd so far it goes out with in 5- 10 min after selecting off
I also have to select the hubs to manual my auto function has quit.
A couple of ford guys said that also could be a bad switch to vacuume on the passenger
Side wheel well ...just in case but knowing my luck....anyway
Merry Christmas all

I don't know that this will be any help to you as I have manual hubs and shifter but I had a sensor in the t case go bad, that for some reason kept the 4x4 light on and wouldn't allow me to shift to 4 hi unless I was stopped of the hubs were locked. Again this is a manual set up. It it may be worth looking in to. I just got under there and started unplugging sensors until I found the one that made the light turn off.
