Current Paint Supply Pricing. 1 word OUTRAGEOUS
Its been a few years since I purchased much for paint supplies. Talk about absolute sticker shock today!
Needed to pick up a few items to paint core support and inner fenders along with tailgate for my '70 Ranger and also primer for my '66 427 Box.
1 gallon of K36 Primer with Hardener
1 Gallon of basic reducer
Scotch~Brites
1 Qt of Tan for tailgate no hardener already had some
Above items 594.40 with small discount
Add in the Gallon of DP74LF primer and its 354.00 with hardener
So just materials to get the box & tailgate in primer will cost over 1000.00 ! Absolute crazy . . ('66 427 Project)
Tailgate, aprons, valance and core support on '70 Ranger will be in excess of 700.00
This is using PPG DCC
Anyone else getting sticker shock from paint and materials costs?
The paint costs to do my '66 427 Truck will now exceed 5000.00 !

If your PPG dealer sells Omni, try using their primers. About half the price or less and still very good quality. MP170 is the epoxy, and MP182 is the high build. I have been using these for years top coating with PPG paints.
Do not use Omni top coats. They suck.
Also buy your supplies in the largest quantities you can use....much cheaper.
Example...1 gallon of reducer is $40, but a quart is $25......

I haven't looked into paints yet for my projects. I knew paint supplies weren't going to be cheap. But not this expensive the price you listed so far for what you got I wouldn't of guessed surely is outrageous i definitely don't want to buy paints now after seeing what I'll be looking at.

I painted this truck for a friend in Seattle. I found the paint pricing there is even worse than here. In the end I was buying the paint here then sending it up there as was much cheaper.
Do you know this truck? He about gave it away. Ultra nice 69 Ranger a 4x4 with a 390. SOld complete truck done for under 5,000.00 A fraction what the paint job should have costed. Unreal how nice and straight the truck was prior to paint, the inside of box only had a couple very minor dings, one small mark in roof. Did you buy this one too?

If I had to do it again probably 50% more. But, I am doing the undercarriage like top side of truck. Had well over 100 hrs just in cab for prime, sand paint,
not looking forward to doing underside of box as nice . . .
I have no idea why I spent this much time on it. The avg person will have no clue how much work it was . .

5yrs has past since this was done. I simply dont think I would be able to do it again, not only getting too old but the expense involved has me about finished.
I have no idea why I now have 4 projects like this that need to be done, plus helping my daughter do 2 of her projects . . . The health no longer allows me to do much of it. I hope if I ever decide to sell this truck I will have a photo album hanging around my neck to remind me how much work it was so I do not give it away like the last dozen I did . .

Take a look at this company's products, you might be pleasantly surprised. I have been using some of their products on my truck for several years and find them to be of excellent quality at an affordable price. I have also found that most of the nay-sayers about this company and their product have not even tried it before.

I have never been a big bumpside fan either. No clue why I bought the '70 Ranger. I do like the '65 but '66 is by far my favorite year. I guess thats why there are 4 sitting in yard now with a possible 5th soon.
