Removal of factory radio 1992 F150

I need to replace the bulb that lights up the display for the clock and frequency of the radio. My truck is a 1992 F150--second generation 1992-1996 dash.

The Ford Shop manual states that a bezel has to be removed before using the DIN removal tools in the four holes in the face plate. How does one remove this plastic bezel? I don't see it.

Eyeballing this radio face plate-it looks like it would just pull out. I only see plastic on the bottom of the opening-I don't see a bezel surrounding the face plate.

I did a search and it seems that many people just use the DIN removal tool and dont remove a bezel. Is it possible to just pull out the radio with the DIN removal tools without damaging the dash?

And what size bulb is used in these factory radios?

No need to remove bezel. Just slide the tolls into the holes, gently pry the tools away from each other and pull out. Might need to massaging but it should come out.

not sure if a 90 is the same but the bezel just pops off with a knife. the radio has two screws under the cover and then it slides out the front. ive had mine out a few times. i installed a aftermarket radio.

On '92 and up, you need these, they are in the HELP section at your favorite parts store...

Thanks to all. I now figure that The Ford Shop Manual is referring to the 87-91 dash assembly that did have a surrounding plastic bezel.

Anybody know what the size of the bulb is ? I would like to know before removal of the radio.

If I remember correctly a type 24 or type 74 bulb work.
