2001 Battery problems?
I have been having a problem with my 2001 Expedition. It is the Eddy Baur in case that will make a difference.
About once a year it get hard to start. It begins by requiring a jump start every few days. One day it will need jumped, then it will be fine for a few days, a few weeks, or maybe until the next start. That usually happens toward the end of summer, but I don't think the seasons have anything to do with it. By October I am replacing the battery because it will have a bad cell.
So far I am on battery #5. All have been free replacement from Wal Mart, but it is still a pain.
So far, when it has been causing problems I do a drain test. I connect a meter or a bulb, I prefer an tail light bulb so I can see from the cab! I connect this from the - battery post to the - battery cable. Disconnect the battery cable and tie the bulb in between the 2. There should not be enough power running through with the engine off and the doors closed to light the bulb. Then I start pulling fuses until the bulb shuts off to see where my drain is.
Once while doing this test I found the radio was drawing. So we started pulling the radio fuse every time we shut it off. It made a difference, no dead batteries while we did this. Then we started forgetting to pull the fuse. A few months later again dead batteries. This time I found the climate control fuse was the drain.
The alternator went out last year, I replaced it but it did not help my problem.
Any ideas what might be eating my batteries? I am thinking maybe my parasitic drain is what is actually killing the batteries, but can't locate the source of the drain.
I was thinking something computer related because it was showing climate control once, and radio another time.
Are there any common problems with battery drains in these vehicles?
We have had it for 6 or 7 years. Got it at 77,000 miles. Now we have 190,000 miles.

No aftermarket electronics at all.
The batteries I have been using is an everstart max. I know they may not be the best quality, but but out of 5 I should fine one that will go longer than a year. I put the same battery in my 99 F150, 6 years ago. Put a Wal Mart everstart on my boat 4 years ago, it is still strong. So, I don't think it is the batteries that are the problem. Once or twice maybe but not every year.
I looked back at my receipts, I have replaced the battery in October or November every year. Free replacement, but still the headache of replacing it.

I am having same problem After sitting for 1 hour I have a 826 mA draw on battery. Pull fuse #1 it goes down to 288 mA. Pull fuse # 14 it goes to 168 mA. Pull fuse # 15 it goes to 59 mA. So with these fuses out the it seems ok, the audio fuse one is drawing the most at 600 mA. Truck is all stock and have not be able to figure out why its doing this. GEM module looks clean and dry I know they can get leaked on from windshield. Any help appreciated.
