Tall/skinny tires for 1977 highboy?

I got some 16x7 steel rims and I am looking for a tall skinny tire for my 1977 highboy. I was wondering if anyone is running the Interco swamper q78-16 on their stock highboy? Will they rub? Also, is there any other tall/skinny tire options for 16x7 rims? The q78's are 35.5 x 9.5. Thanks

My truck:

I have been eyeballing tall skinny's lately, and the Q78 seems like a good deal. On my old truck, I shot for highboy height, but came out about 1/2" to 3/4" higher than the trucks I measured. Anyway, here's a pic of it on 36x12.50s, which measured about 35.5"

Is that truck lifted at all?

Absolutely. It started as a 2wd, but what I was saying is that I shot for stock highboy height. It came out 1/2" to 3/4" taller than the highboys I measured. I measured from hub center to fender lip.

Bfg still makes a 255/85/16 km2. I'm probably not going to end up getting the q78 swampers because i drive on the road pretty frequent and usually just take my truck offroading on the weekends. The km2's are probably more road appropriate. Do you have any pictures of your truck with the 255/85/16's?

Multi Mile Tires has a commercial brand called Power King. They have a 9.00X16 bias ply with a directional tread pattern that's been on the market for the last 35 years that I know of. I have a set on my '97 PS F350 farm truck. The way they're going, they'll dry rot before they wear out. Keep in mind I did say they were bias ply, not radial. They bump quite a bit more than than a radial will on the highway. Dig real good and will pull like not other tire I've ever owned, except maybe my old set of Gateway Buckshots.

Got a link to those Power Kings? I can't find the 9.00x16's on multi miles website.

I was thinking on some Gateway Buckshot mudders for my 76. The original ones, not the ones made by Maxxis. 34x9, IIRC. They're bias-ply, and getting harder and harder to find. Run you about $260 a pop too. I think they come in a 16 inch wheel pattern

The price is why I like the hummer tires. For both my old set (on the ford) and the new set for my dodge were $100 a piece new. They are bias, though.

Scroll down to the Power King Premium Traction tire model NR-50. Nearly 36" tall and skinny. Fits original rim width perfectly.

Good luck finding some. Since the company sold out, the original Gateways are few and far between, no matter what size you're looking for. I still have a set of Q78's that I took of my '79 one ton GMC years ago. Keeping them stored in the shop and hope to get another set of 16" rims for my '97 Power Stroke to mount them on. If I'd known then what we all know now, I would've stocked up a few sets. The new Maxxis Buckshots are a joke compared to the Gateways.

Multi-Mile - SUV-LT

This link is for the radial Multi Mile Wild Country MTX. There are a few more sizes available in the radial. I'll probably get a set of the WMT77's next time. They're about the same size as the 9.00X16 but ride a whole lot smoother. And since my "farm" truck has recently became a daily driver for the wife, I'm sure she'd appreciate the ride quality until I get the stupid transmission rebuilt in the Expo.
