8.8 AXEL HELP!!! :)
I have a 1953 Ford f100 that I now have a 2001 Ford Explorer rear end for. I wanted to purchase the 3" Axel over springs kit from Mid-50's. I called in and they confirmed what I kinda knew. The 8.8 has a larger diameter axel than the 9 bolt.
What do I need to get to make this happen???? Help Please???? Maybe Pics. also?

For now here is a site that has some info that may help you with axle tube specs......in the end though nothing beats measuring in person on the actual part.

The 8.8 does have 3 inch tubes. When I did my change over (on my 49F1) i ordered spring pads and u bolts from Currie Enterprise. The spring pads were $23.00 for the pair and i belive the u bolts were either $20 or $25 for the set of 4. The fit perfect. Easy easy install. Very happy with the swap. I reccomend it.

Hey Schott,
We also have the same Explorer 8.8 axle you have. In going back through my notes it looks like we used shackle kit, spring hangers, etc. from Dorman - bought through Advanced Auto Parts but available in other places.
Shackle kit Part # 722004
Spring hangers Part # 20519980
It's been a while so double check before ordering...
Good luck up there in Minnesota!

I also have a 8.8 out of an Explorer and they do have 3 1/4" tubes. Mine is a 31 spline, some are 28 but I think all have the same size tubes. I found 3 1/4" perches at an online Jeep site, can't remember the name though. I also have two extra ones (I forgot that I had already ordered them). If you need them send me a PM.
