thinking of buying an Expedition

Hello,<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

I am thinking of buying a used Expedition, and would likesome feedback. I currently have a 2008 ranger XLT and would like to sell it andbuy an expedition for about the same amount. My ranger is low miles and inreally good shape, but I realize I will have to get an Expedition maybe a littleolder with a few more miles. I am thinking like an 06/07 with about 75000miles. I have a few questions- how much can they tow? I want to pull about a 16’travel trailer, which I did with my ranger and it struggled. Does a class III hitchcome standard? And can it pull more than my ranger without any modifications? Also, how difficult is it to install a trailer brake controller? I had toinstall one on my ranger and it was a pain to wire it all up.<o></o>

I was also wondering how happy people are with these yearsof expeditions. Are there any major issues to be aware of? I am a ford guy andlove my ranger but I need a multi-passenger vehicle to use for skiing, camping, towing, etc. I have my old ’76 ford for hauling stuff, so I would like an SUValso instead of 2 trucks. Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated.<o></o>

Love the forum!<o></o>

Thanks,<o></o>

It will tow around 9 k (rated) IF you buy one with the factory towing pkg, that's really a must.

It will come with a class IV hitch which works well for your size trailer.

It will also have airbags to level out the load so yes, it will do more than the Ranger.

The factory tow set up has the terminal under your steering column to easily plug in the brake controller. A very simple process.

Other features such as a hd tranny cooler, 7 pin harness, etc make for a reasonable tow vehicle for your size.

Air suspension is an a la carte option, you can have all of the above without air bags. I'm not sure what that does to the load rating if anything.

The factory tow package is great... class IV hitch, 7-pin plug all set in the back, and the harness by the steering column that simply plugs into the brake controller harness.
Tow "rating" for the Expedition seems as though it would be far more than any Ranger... likely varies a little by options/equipment. My 04 with 5.4 and 4x4 lists 8650 lbs. max towing capacity - with all of the usual fine print about frontal area, cargo, etc.
Good luck.
