Front passenger side axle leak.

After I helped a friend of mine replace the ball joints in my truck. I have a leak on the passenger side axle , the long side. It is diff fluid. I think when he was putting the axle shaft back in he hit the inner seal. Can I leave the axle shaft in and try and reseat the seal ? Or do I need to pull the axle shaft , buy a new seal and intstall ? Also , is there a special tool and way to do it ? Tired of having diff fluid leaking out. When it stops leaking there is still oil about 1/2" , maybe a little less, from the fill hole.

Thanks

If that's what happened then the seal is toast and you'll need a new one. As far as removal of the shaft I don't know, I've never removed one on a truck other than my old F150 but it was simple enough. As far as removing the old seal you can just run a screw through it and then yank it out by the screw w/ a pair of pliers.
