7.3 to 6.9 motor swap
Hey all. I just bought a 1990 F-250 extended cab 4x4 with a 5 speed manual. The 7.3 has a hole in the block. This truck is in great condition otherwise. On the other hand, my 86 F-350 crew cab 4x4 with a C-6 just had the tranny crap out. This truck is in very rough condition.
I was wondering if I could swap the 6.9 into the 1990 without any problem. Will I have to change anything to get the engine to fit into its bay or to get the 5 speed to mate up. I am pretty mechanically inclined but have never swapped over a motor and tranny. I have replaced a few Ford clutches by myself. Thank you all for your continued great advise to everyone here. -John
I forgot to add. The 6.9 has a Banks turbo on it and runs like a striped ape.

All the 7.3 is is a bored over 6.9 with better heads. It is a direct bolt in. Just swap everything over including the turbo but you will have to cut the protruding lip on the fire wall the make the down pipe work. My idea would be to find anouther 7.3 and put it in your new truck and have a nice daily driver work truck and keep your old beat up truck for a play toy so if you break it you ain't walk in
