Great truck Mack. Thanks for the pics. and great video Rob.

I saw one of them several years ago. It was a 48-50 Ford F5 or 6 M-H conversion and it was still in use. It is still owned by PennDot. There is a small town north of me in central PA that was blocked off because of a snow slide that covered the only road to this town. They brought in the heavy equipment and I went up to look around and saw this huge snow blower. I am not sure if I got any pics. I will have to look.

Good luck with the project and remember it is not just a hobby, it can be a money maker come winter time!!!

Hey Olweldinrig, the video that was posted is a 1942 Snogo, and it's NOT the 1948 one that I found (with the scream'n jimmy and supposed bad heat). Most snogo's had gasoline engines (usually inline six cylinders) to run the blower, but the one that I found had the gas engine removed in the 1950's? and the Detroit put in. Supposedly, the cab heat was poor because the Ford V8 was never put under much load (with such low gearing).

I'm starting to think that if I DON'T get this truck, I will forever wish I did.

Can anyone tell me what truck this may be??

Here is a picture of the actual truck that was used at the Rochester Airport. (I found it today at our Historical Society!). I see that the truck I found in a barn is NOT the one in the picture... can anyone tell me what type of truck and the year THIS one is?? Thanks!

Welcome to FTE Pete!

That's a great find, and I agree, you'll be sorry if you don't get it. But, I'm just one of the many enablers on here.

It's a 1939 Ford 1 1/2 Ton Marmon-Herrington 4x4.

No kidding Pete you dont take it, we will. I look at it this way. You use a
loader, your moving snow twice. With this you move it once. Also a note
on adding a turbo. It won't do much with old style liners. Quick check is to
pop off a hand hole cover & look at the liner windows, if they look like a fig
"8" thats the old syle "smokers" next a little bigger oval those used the common
HV 70 injectors they still were smokers. Lastly will be tall windows "looks like
windows on a castle" . These liners with a turbo (4-71 NT) should get you
around 175hp most common with N65 injectors.
Now take me serious. CAUTION: Not being run for sometime you HAD better
take off the valve cover and see if you can move the rack by hand. With these
engines when SHUT down, the rack returns to full fuel postion for the next
start. So it is very common for injectors to freeze (for not being run)!!

These are no different that widow makers. They will self destruct and kill ya!

I have seen this and blowers blown through the hood 200 ft in the air.
TAKE THE VALVE COVER OFF AND CHECK THE RACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is a very neat rig, it would be neat to see it in action! I like the picture of the 38/39' Snogo, those are probably my favorite years for Ford.

I agree with Big Job about checking the rack on the detroit before you start her, they're know for running away on the fist start after sitting for a while. Pop off the valve cover, make sure the rack is free and fire it up!

There's been a couple of these rigs on criagslist around me in the last couple years (none as nice as yours though) and it sure would be cool to have one, but so far we've got a grand total of one INCH of snow here, so I don't think I can justify it!

And yes, the jimmy needs a straight pipe. You got to do it at least once!

Thanks

Thanks guys for the heads-up on the screamin' Detroit. I love the sound of a good ol' 2-stroke.

I have been talking with the guy who owns it, and he is the kind of guy who thinks his stuff is worth LOTS of money. He's probably nice enough to let me put new liquids in both engines and see how they run, but when I offered him $1500, he said "well hell, it's worth $1500 in scrap alone!".

The truck is a classic, but even as a hobby, it's going to need everything from the tires to the glass.

Right now, I don't have enough cash to keep bartering with the owner, plus I don't have a place to store the beauty. I'm going to wait another year or so before I try and buy it off him again.

If anyone seeing this wants to put an offer in to the owner, let me know...the truck is near Rochester, MN. Otherwise, I'm going to hold off for now.

Happy Holidays Everybody!

Aw, I am sorry to hear that you are not buying that cool truck! We were all waiting for you to buy so we could live vicariously through your purchase of the Sno Go and follow your progress on FTE.

We all have "enabler's remorse"! But I give you props for facing the seller having done your research then walking away when he wasn't realistic. It'll be sitting there for a few more years, or until the old guy passes on and his estate goes to auction. Stu
