so i got a little snow today - and i realized that it is time i put weight in the back.

i tossed 8 bundles of shingles in the back - i figure that'll give me a little extra traction.

 

Buy a snowmobile and put that in the back. When you're riding the sled, you're not driving the truck.

 

When I was driving my Ranger I had 250lbs of sand and two spares

 

big part of my problem is, i havent driven a real wheel drive vehicle in snow in over a decade, so part of it is lead-foot-itis.

 

Lock in the hubs and make the 4X4 light up on the dash. I don't add weight to the back of my 250.

 

i've got the auto hubs - but most of the trip this morning was fairly clear - i didn't wanna do any real distance in 4 high for a couple slippery corners.

 

I recomend absolutly nothing in the bed of the truck, it makes it harder to go into parkinglots and mix up the diesel 911..

I never put weight in mine, unless I am hauling and or towing something.

 

keep the fuel tank full, easy weight.. easier said than done with a super duty gasser, i can sympathize lol.

 

Or if you put beer back there, it adds to traction and doesn't get warm...

 

uhmm, beer should be in the front seat, returnables in the bed...

 

Well yeah, but a couple of 30's up front and a few in the back isn't such a bad way to go. You can always exchange at pee stops.

 

i put roughly 400lbs of concrete blocks right over the rear axle....last year when my limited slip worked right it did awesome in the snow, didn't have a single issue at all. drove home from work last night in snow covered roads and it was a royal pita to drive with the LS "gone".

If i had 4x4 though i wouldn't even bother with weight in the bed.

 

I don't bother with weight, just gets in the way for me.
One of my co-workers has an interesting approach, when it snows he shovels it into his bed for weight.
