I crossed my over to a VDO Pm350 motor which can be had at any parts store for 30 dollars. Only thing needed to change to make it work was to cut the shaft shorter.

I'm curious what is meant by an "upgrade"? More fan air output? Just a better motor or what?

Thanks Jack,I think this is what I am looking for.The original works but it sure doesn't blow very hard.Even with the Fresh air set up.

I don't know why I mention only thing needed to change to make it work was to cut the shaft shorter, that's incorrect the one thing I had to do was drill the bushing larger in the squirrel cage to accept the larger shaft. I did not need to shorten the shaft. Sorry

Before you pull the trigger on a new motor, try oiling (lightly) the bushings on the old motor. May even have to disassemble it to do so, tho.

Ya probably a good idea.I figure a good cleaning of all the connections couldn't hurt either.

This is what I used, looks like Amazon offers it now as well. This was a perfect fit for my 55 F100 stock fresh air heater. Works great and somewhat quiet. Just make sure you get the right rotation motor.

I'd better give it a lube and check the wireing first.Although if I going to have it out it almost makes sense to change it.

Auto Zone PM350 vented $19.99 PM351 non vented $15.99

went with non vented. Only thing I had to do was drill out squirrel cage slightly to fit on shaft.

I am in the process of restoring the heater in my 56 f350. When first disassembled the motor did not work, I priced a new one at LMC (local company for me, right on my way home from work) think it was around $120, ouch! The 6v earlier ones are half that, WTH? Anyway messing around the shop one day and took my drill and used it to spin the shaft of the motor after squirting a little Gibbs penitrating lube down the shaft. Nothing to lose, right? Spun it for maybe 40 seconds, tested it on the battery and it runs like a champ. Just needed a little polishing up inside.
