Horrifically shocked in a good way of these 6.4's!

I wanted to share my surprise at how rugged these trucks are! A work horse indeed, and solid! What i just put my 2010 F-250 6.4 through and how it came out was shocking!

I went out on a firewood run out in Laramie Peak mountains, which in itself is risky, and more so in the middle of winter! I trecked deep in there with no problems. As i did, traffic began to deminish the deeper the trails i took, even the game wardens didnt venture. I crested a steep ravine, and was headed down before i knew it! Came to a stop finally at the bottom of the riverbed. Knowing i went too far, i turned around to climb up the ridge i slid down, being the only path out! My attempts put my into a four foot deep bar ditch, filled with over four feet of snow! Just sunk it! Under the snow was a good six inch pack of ice! The minus 25 degree temps made it more unpleasant!

My first attempt put me so far in that the mirrors deep into the snow was rolling over the hood! The steep climb upward through the mess was the hardest i ever had to negotiate in my life, and remaining stuck was not an option as i wouldnt be found!

After fighting slowly up hill, hitting regen to the point that the wrench light came on, turbo cool off several times, and rpms hitting 3500 consistantly, i was able to climb out in 4wd high, as 4 low was not helping get momentum. Leaving behind pounds of spent rubber, my 4 hour experience of getting unstuck was over. I didnt want to, but really had to put the screws to the rig, and i came out unscratched, no damage, and free from the mess!

Any other rig would have burned up in this adventure! Amazing trucks!

That is a wild story. I'm glad it worked out so well for you and that the truck came through such an event unhurt. However, I don't plan to challenge mine to that extent. Heck I once got mine stuck in my back yard and there was no snow.

I know you were busy but can you imagine what a picture would tell, although I know you never will forget. Good thing your here to tell the story.
Built Ford Tough.

Been there done that, but I don't suspect we got any grays hairs from getting stuck on the grass.

But I would be willing to bet Midwest Dually will be sleeping good tonight and might have a few extra gray hairs.

You too? I got mine stuck on my back lawn in an inch of super slippery clay mud when the truck was a week old. I had it idling in 4LO and was able to walk around the truck and see all wheels slowly turning in their shallow divots - that's slippery! It took a good deal of winching to get the truck back to pavement.

Yep, the punch line on mine is I put the wife in my 92 Acura and she pulled me out. That's how little it took to stick it. Front wheel went in a hole and that was it. One DRW with no weight on it and the posi just wouldn't get it out.

I got stuck in a customer's back yard. 4" of muck on top of clay. But, that's how I found out I had a vacuum leak so the front hubs wouldn't lock.

Yeah, it was kinda funny after we got it out. LMAO. The truck was a compromise, I wanted a 4WD but the price on this one was so good I just couldn't pass it up. 4WD is a PITA until you need it, but when you need it it's solid gold. Bet the OP is happy he had 4WD.

Fortunately you are not dependent on the somewhat fragile vacuum lock system, you can always get out, get dirty and turn the hubs to the lock position manually.

In my stuck, I was just shocked that with no lockers or anything (standard LS rear), the clay mud was so slippery that all the wheels were turning when I walked around the truck. Figure out how to use that stuff for engine bearings and we'd probably gain a few MPG.
