New Ride and questions about the 5.4l
Hi I'm new to the forum I recently upgraded from a 2000 F-150 to a 2010 F-150 xlt. It has 8300 miles on it now I love the truck I have a few questions about the 5.4 like what kind of oil and filters do you guys prefer? I was partial to pennzoil and fram filters in my 4.2 v6. I'll upload a picture as soon as I figure that out I noticed you guys like pics. Thanks for any replies!

Thanks for the reply I just used what my dad always used and that was fram I'll look into the motorcraft filters. I was also wondering about the dreaded spark plug problem that I've heard about in these motors, are they an issue for this model year? The picture of my truck is now in my avatar. Thanks again!

Congrats on the new truck!! MC filters for sure, 5w-20 oil for certain and the brand of your choice. I also use MC oil but that's my preference.
By 2010 the spark plug issue was totally eliminated.
You listed the odometer reading as 8300, did you mean 83,000? Just curious because if it's the higher amount, you'll have some scheduled maintenance items to address shortly, ie, coolant flush andspark plug replacement.

Same here. Mobil 1 and Motorcraft.
As far as the plugs, Ford redesigned the heads in late 07 to use a different plugs. They now use SP509 plugs that are fully threaded. Go to Rock Auto or Ford Parts, pull any pre-2008 and your year, and look at the pics of the plugs. You'll see the difference in plug design.
I had an 05 5.4 with the bad heads/plugs and was curious about my 08 Expy. See thread below:

Nope it had 7005 miles when I drove it off the lot in the beginning of November. The dealership told me that an older gentleman bought it new in 2010 and just traded it on a brand new one. I don't know if that's true or not but with those kind of miles I couldn't argue. I'm glad to hear about the spark plug issue I was hesitant on buying for that reason. Ill definitely check out some motorcraft next oil change.

Hey Killer, it's very forward of me to ask you a favor seeing as I never met you. Could you go hide in the woods and sniper that damned groundhog. I get sick of hearing that Groundhog Day BS. Besides, blowing the head off of that little bass turd on tV would be funny as hell. CB
