oil draining from filter housing

Hi all. have a late 04 6.0 appears to have a 03 oil filter base given the design of the turbo oil feed line.

Issue is after 10-15 minutes the oil filter housing drains out. I have the updated stand pipe and a new antidrain back valve, MC filter and cap. Do the seals and or springs wear out in the drain/fill valves in the base where the oil filter sits?

How do you know the filter housing drains out?

It's supposed to drain with the cap off. How do u know it drains if you have the cap in?

There are two bypass valves on that filter base too. IIRC (and someone correct me if I am wrong) There is a oil cooler bypass valve that opens when the oil pressure in the filter housing is 20 psi less than the oil cooler inlet. There is s oil filter bypass valve that bypasses the oil filter if the pressure differential exceeds 25 psi. Then there is the oil filter housing drain valve that drains the reservoir when the cap is removed.

Well, I think the filter should be dripping when you take it out. How long does it crank before it starts? If it starts right up, there's no way the filter reservoir is draining with the cap on.

it takes about 4 seconds of cranking before starting, and 4 seconds before pressure registers on the gauge. After oil pressure registers, the sound pitch of the motor changes.

It wasn't always like this, it could sit over night when I pull the filter it would be soaked and I could hear the oil draining from the housing.

I thought this might be your issue. Here's a picture of what's in the oil filter base: http://www.backglass.org/duncan/ps60...l/ps60_025.jpg

I'm not sure you can get parts to replace them although you said you had replaced the anti-drain back?

It is my understanding there is plenty of oil in the hpop reservoir to start and the lpop is volume enough to fill the oil filter housing in seconds

After looking at that oil housing pic, wondering if the oil cooler bypass is maybe stuck open, given my delta is ,under normal driving, almost always less than 4* now.

4 seconds is getting a little high. When my high pressure system had leaks it was about 5 sec. And that is a long crank. Now it is closer to 2-3 sec. I do not have the top oil filter anymore so it has been a while but I recall the filter dripping to the point I would pull it off to open the drain back valve then set it back down to drip as much off while I would open the drain plug on the pan

The oil can leak out through the hpop. The way to test is to remove the oil cooler and note the level of oil in the reservoir and see if it drops.

I would agree that this is most likely the issue (or some kind of HPO leak) as compared to the oil filter housing being empty.
