77 460 alternator mounting advice .

I need help with mounting my alternator on my 460 stuffed in a f150. The PO had it rigged together and l forgot how he did it. Nothing looks like it belongs nor do the have anything that looks like a belt adjustment. If anybody can snap me a picture. Anything that can help.
Thanks guys.

Here's a picture of the front of my engine just for reference.

If nobody else gets you one, I'll get one tomorrow. I've got a '77 F-250 parts rig I'm taking apart. Should be what you're looking for.

Let me know if you need a different angle, but this should give you the basic idea.

Glad you got the help. I was about to upload my pics, but mine mounts like March's so they wouldn't have been much help.

L&L sells a high mount kit I do believe. I have a similar PO job on ol blue, without it the alternator can get real close to the main cross member with a swapped in 460 in a 4x4.

Here she is all installed. What would be the benefit of a high mount?

What is the the clearance between the fins and your crossmember? And will that clearance change with the engine under load?

Remember the chain trick on the drivers side? I think I faintly do, and yes I have a close distance from my fins and the plastic air duct.

Is that a front sump oil pan still on it? What is the distance from your pan bottom to your axle tube?

There's about a half inch to the frame. It's a front sump pan.
Chain trick? You mean chaining the left side of the block to the frame?
Not sure of the exact distance but their is a nice crease from the tracking bar lol.

Sounds like you should be ok, yep that ol chain trick.
Yes the PO of ol blue did the 460 swap left the front sump pan on and when the top of the front axle pumpkin hit it, it did this in the 2nd pic.

A contributing factor was the completely wore out 6 pk highboy springs.

I have since remedy it, and installed a proper 4" spring lift and no front blocks. Now to address the stacked rear blocks, jeesch.

This thread is a good reminder for me to take lots of photos before I pull my motor out when I get around to rebuilding it.

I have a 460 installed with what looks like an L&L mount kit but the power steering and alternator mounts have also had some fabrication to make them work.

Just have to remember to get the digital camera out first.....

Yea I need to chain mine down, engine mounts look to be going out. A high mount sounds like it would be a worthy investment. I wanted to change a lot of things on my engine but my budget stopped me at a completely rebuilt pair of heads, aluminum intake and a new timing chain, the valve covers and air cleaner were freebees.

Yea I took pictures of everything... But the alternator lol. I also forgot to snap pictures of the valves that looked like charcoal briquettes, same with the pistons. Both clean now.
