2011 diesel oem remote start will not when cold soaked below 0F

2011 SD 6.7 with factory remote start will start normally when the temperatures are above 20F or the vehicle is warmed up. If the temperature is near or below O F and the vehicle is cold soaked for 12 hours the remote start fails to work. Push the lock button and the lights flash, push remote start twice and the lights flash once and nothing happens. Subsequently can manually start vehicle with key without any delay or problems. Once vehicle is warmed up can remote start normally. Only recently have the temps been low enough in the area to experience this problem which has repeated 3 times. Unable to find any troubleshooting in the service manual for this. Anybody aware of a TSB or familiar with the issue. Thanks.

Are you using the block heater?

Its something to do with settings.
They reprogrammed mine to allow for cold starts and the glow plugs time delay.

Haven't tried using the block heater because the situation is presents when I get off work in the early morning (when the temp is coldest) and there isn't an easy place to plug in the heater at work. Did think about it though, might try leaving it outside at home with the heater plugged in to see if it makes a difference.

I'd like to ask a related remote starter question. I have a 2011 and the starter works fine but all it does is start the truck. This is the first remote start vehicle I've owned that didn't power up the vehicle, or at least some of it so that the defrost and heater can be used to heat the vehicle and defrost the windshield. Is this normal or does it sound like something is wrong? This is also my first diesel so that may be the difference. Having a warm engine is a good thing but not having to wait for the windshield to defrost (melt the ice) is even better.

Thanks,

The block heater shouldn't be required for this, as the engine is easily capable of starting in -10° weather. I'd take it to the dealer and see if they can figure it out, sometimes cold weather can do strange things to electronics.

And djkrs2, your issue is how the remote starter is wired in. Sounds like it wasn't installed properly!
