Hey tinman,

No one I know if has tried them. I didn't even know anyone was making them new. Kinda cool.

China made stuff, unfortunately, is all up to how harsh the specs are from the manufacturer. There can be some really good stuff from there, or it can be complete garbage.

The company I used to work for was having some things manufactured in China and honestly, their standard operating procedure is to only put as much effort into it as you write into the design specs, and not an ounce of effort more.

So, who knows, the manufacturer (Rally it looks like?) might be having them make a really good carb. I know Summit's in-house carb is made in China.

Whoa, now wait a minute, AB. Are you saying as a journalist would say, having investigated and seen/read absolute proof, or merely repeating something unsubstantiated you read online and accepted without proving one way or another, the equivalent of online gossip? I'm curious because I searched and people who have called Summit could not get a straight answer, which may say heaps. The only hint of where the Summit carbs are made was online and author claimed they were made by Holley, who originally put them out as the 4010 iirc, for Summit.

I know Pony Carbs had access to NEW one barrel carters.

Heh, you're right. I try to be very careful with absolutes and wasn't really thinking while writing that. No, I don't know for a fact they're made in China. But pretty much everything I read on it states as such and it's been claimed by more than a couple dozen articles I've looked over. Granted, that doesn't mean it's true until Summit comes right out and says it.

Either way, my point about it was a positive example of how quality can be purchased from China made goods. Design it right, spec it right, and they make it right.

I was surprised you could find proof of its origin when I couldn't. I searched and could only find authors speculating about it without knowing. The fact that Summit will not come right out and say where it's made is a strong indicator. Oh well....

I know that this is kind of an old thread, but I had made the mistake of buying one of these Carter YFA clones. They are junk. The gaskets fell apart after only two months, the needle valve cant seat properly to shut off the fuel, the plastic bearing on the choke linkage crumbled and fell out and the adjustment screw on the metering rod came stripped right out of the box. I had terrible problems with the thing and buying a genuine rebuilt carter fixed everything. Just my two cents.

Sorry to hear about the problems you had, but much appreciated on you sharing your experiences. It's good to know what to avoid.
A nice low price is always alluring, but there's often a reason it costs less.

I had this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-CARBURETOR-TYPE-CARTER-YFA-1-BARREL-ELECTRIC-CHOKE-FORD-4-9L-300-cu-I6-/231276852385?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item35d92cb4a1
While I had only paid a little over a hundred for it a few months ago, this carb is now selling for $575. I took a look at an old parts YFA and this one after I made my post, and I noticed that the clone was also missing the seals around the metering rod that my genuine Carter carb has.

I have a carter YF coming in from rock auto. It has the manual choke. Will be my first purchase from Rock Auto. Had not seen, or perhaps noticed the "new" carter YF from China.
Probably would have stayed with my Rock Auto purchase in any event.
