351M Carb ?

351M Carb ?
I have a 77 Super Cab with a 351M in it (Rebuilt) when i purchased this motor
it had a Edelbrock 4 barrel manifold on it and i had a Edelbrock 4 Barrel Carb on the shelf, I still have the original cast iron intake and 2barrel Carb and now wondering if it would be better to just put the stock manifold on it as it just seams to me the 4 is not all it is suppose to be! am i just wasting Fuel getting into the secondaries? (which it seams like when i shift?) i don't need this Truck to Hall A$$, But just get out of it's way and it did with the 2barrel on the original motor it had ! I really don't see a BIG difference now that i got my truck running
Just wondering what you all might think?
Thanks,Allen

My F-150 has a 351m in it. I'm running a Holley two barrel on it now because the original carb wasn't worth rebuilding. Were I to do it again, I'd buy an original Motorcraft and put back on it. The Holley runs fine, but I got better mileage and just as much 'seat of the pants' power from the original.

What Edelbrock do you have on there? Have there been any adjustments made? I had a 400 in my Bronco, with a very mild build; when I put a 1406 on there, I thought I was doing great...till I put a fuel air meter on it and realized how fat it was jetted out of the box.
Do you have any driveability issues? Have you pulled plugs to see what your mixture is?
I think it's pretty likely that you'd see mileage gains from a stock unit over an out of the box Holley or Edelbrock, as they just arent made for your engine like the stock unit is. BUT, they can be tuned well and are incredibly reliable...for a carb.

The 4 bbl can work best with other mods like dual exhaust, headers and cam (and tuned). If your truck is like mine (stock cam, stock exhaust) I think the OE carb/intake will work better.
When my 35 year old OE carb got sketchy I replaced with an Autoline reman from AZ. It has worked great. ('78 F250/400).

If the engine is stock, the 2bbl is fine. If its got even a mild cam, I recommend a 4bbl. I have a mildly built 400 in my 78 and I have an edelbrock 1406 on it. It came stock with a motorcraft 2150. Swapped it over, tuned it, and got lots more bottom end power from the bottom end. Then again, this is just my experience...everyone elses may be different
