Saty away from the EDGE chip with your auto trans. Stick trans are fine

is there a way to tell how good of shape the slip clutches are in, and if they are in bad shape are they rebuildable?

If the clutches are good then there will be no slipping.
If they rate bad, it will slip and you need NEW clutches along with a bunch of other parts

Jack it up.try to turn one tire..if you can turn one and the opposite rotates the opposite way its worn..mine I could not rotate , its good.yes the clutches are replaceble to bring a worn one back.there is a brake away torque value to gauge the bias but I cant remember the spec.you will know if its good or bad.not much inbetween.
