I got a 95 f250 with a 460 big block that's leaking oil out of the crankcase breather line, oil filler cap, and dipstick tube. anyone know what could be the cause of that
Most likely the rings are bad if you have excessive blow by...combustion pressure is getting past rings into crankcase so the pressure basically finds its way out somehow..hence y it'll blow out ur dipstick...just my 2 cents
The blow by on my old 302 was so bad that I had to run 2 separate hoses as road draft tubes and let the excess hose run down the sides on the wheel well liners. I then mounted a PCV valve catch can and then another catch can between the air filter and the oil fill for the breather element. If I hadn't pulled the engine, it would have lasted for years. Cylinders had 140-150 with #8, 135-140psi compression. All plugs were clean and upon pulling cylinder heads, the pistons were still only very lightly carboned.
Remove the valve cover, verify the PCV valve baffle on the underside isn't clogged with sludge preventing all air flow.
If its clear too? then yea its all blow by, compression test would confirm it. Vac gauge would show you how bad it is.......well that plus the amount of oil blown out.
