I'm working on wiring Ol' Red and I've installed directionals on the column since there wasn't one on there when I bought it. The front markers have single filament lamps in them so that made me wonder if the markers were originally used as driving lights or did they use them for directionals? I'm thinking about sticking double filament lamps and sockets in there and going for the complete package since I can't remember if my last one had both. Thoughts?

No stock directional signals and one tail light. I did the conversion with my rewiring and am satisfied with the result.

 

I believe the turn signals were optional in 51, and were mounted on the fenders.

I converted my park lights to dual filament sockets and have them as turn signals.

 

Not driving lights, they're parking lamps. Directional signal lamps were a separate additional option.

 

There was a Ford truck option driving lights.
