1st start of the engine in my 51
Like a lot of others here, my overhaul started when the 226 engine bearings started to go. I bought a 1946 226 with 30k miles to use until I rebuild the 51. It was supposed to be a quick swap. I took the whole front clip off to get the engine out and figured that as long as it was this open I would clean up the engine bay. This led to another and then another and now I am putting it back together from a bare (powder coated) frame. Anyway, after 10 years of sitting in the garage I poured a little gas down the carb and the engine started right up! After seeing some of the threads here on starting a dormant engine this was a big relief.
