Well I took mine to the shop to have the cat put on and found I have a bad lower end bearings are shot causing a retard or advance in the spark advance knocking pretty bad. Throwing off the stft. Happened on the way to the shop so going to find a motor. My not have it right kind of blocked the bad news out was .
My 03 hasn't had a cat on it for at least 50,000mi with no problems. It has dual exhaust with a dual in dual out Magnaflow muffer. I also have a tuner from 5star on it. PS its VERY LOUD!
I removed my cat about a month or so ago. I've installed hedman headers and a 3.5 exhaust and turn out infront of the passenger rear wheel, and its loud!! also the only issue i had was a misfire due to a vacuum leak. all i need now is to convince myself to call mike at 5startuning and buy his tunes.
Any one else notice the exhaust tone changes around 3k rpm from truckish sound to a kind of euro car sound? maybe its just me..
No EGR,No cat, replaced one baffle w. straight tubing in stock muffler and moved muff 3ft forward w. 6" long 45 deg. outlet. Rumble @ idle, fairly quite cruising and light accel.
Pretty loud hard accel, sounds like a Viper sort of. No problems
I have a 09 F550 with just y pipe cats off. Very loud with lots of drone except at idle. Runs fine but have engine light on with codes as mentioned above, terrible fuel mileage. Lucky to get 250km on 120lires. was told to put catalytic converters back on to improve it. Got the y pipe with the 2 converters back on with no difference. Was told I need the one behind the first 2 converters still, but have not been able to locate one yet to see if that makes a difference. Is that piece a catalytic converter or a resonator? No one I ask seems to know.
