advise please!

As you can see, my new bellow is right up against the trans, again. I don't know what to do about it. I don't want another hole rubbed in it. Maybe I just got a deformed set of up pipes. I put a pry bar up there and just after putting a little pressure on it, I stopped. Didn't want to ruin my new bellow. Then I shifted my head back and towards the frame, I caught a little light thru there. I thought to myself, that's paper thin so what the heck, I went and got a piece of paper. I could push the paper thru and then doubled it up and couldn't push it thru. Its that close. What should I do, pry on it some, leave it alone, pull it and try to bend a little, drill out the mounting plate and egg shape the holes so I can move it over a hair. Instead of bolts I could use bolts with a nut from the bottom. There is room on the passenger side to move every thing over a hair. I hate to drill out the threaded holes but a paper thin clearance isn't enough, is it????

Can you take the up pipe off and just grind some of the aluminum trans case back in that spot? I wouldn't see that causing any harm and precision would not be necessary.

Have you bolted the up pipe to the manifold yet?

I don't like where that bellow is on Jake's pipes. It should be down lower. There is a piece that sticks out on the back of the head right there. The factory up pipes have an indention in them so they won't hit it. I put my bellows lower.

I'm wondering about Jake, period!! I like your idea but for myself I'll either grind that down or ?? I'm having problems and Gabe and Darin aren't makes me believe I got a retarded set of pipes, LOL. How much clearance do you think I need Bill?

Just enough so it doesn't touch. Loosen the bolts where the up pipe is bolted to the manifold. Tighten the top one first and see if it will draw the pipe enough to bring the bellow away from the trans, then tighten the bottom one up. This may not work, but worth a try before you pull it all out again. If it doesn't, then grinding a little on the trans case may be your only option.

I'd grind it. I'd grind about a 1/8-1/4" out.

That's what I did Bill, I started the manifold bolts, left them loose, then tightened the top mounting bolts. Unless you mean there is a top and bottom bolt on the manifold?

Sounds like a plan Mike, I hope I can get my grinder in there, LOL

Yeah, that's what I meant. Tighten the top one and it will kinda roll the up pipe over to that side on the rounded flange of the manifold. You don't wanna over do it and put the pipe in a bind, just enough to see if it will pull it away from the trans. Then tighten the bottom on down pretty snug. Like I said, it may not work, but worth a try before you pull the whole deal out again.
