Thermostat opening depth? (NOT long vs short stem related)

Wondering if anyone knows on a 1997 F350 the measurement on the WP housing lip the stat sits on, to the top of the bypass opening in the WP.

With this DS 203 thermostat that barely opens at boiling water temp, unlike the ford or napa stats, I have to wonder if it will close off the bypass hole.

Suspending both the napa 373-195 and DS 203 in boiling water I can atleast see a measureable distance on the napa one in compairison to the DS 203, and IIRC the ford opening is a grand canyon compaired to the other two.

I haven't taken out the old ford one yet due to weather, and went looking for my old WP and must have already recycled it.....

TIA
