You will still have to set up your gears with a new carrier. Plus buy a bearing kit...that's probably another $100. It's a shame your on the west coast I could out you in touch with complete 9" for $200 or less. I would seem to think you could find another 9" out there and rob the center section with gears already set up.

^This is by far the quickest and most economical way to go.
Setting up gears for the first time is best done with a mentor.

You broke the carrier in the exact same spot I did years ago on a 77 F150. Stock 350 engine and tiny donut tires with an open carrier...I tried to do a hole shot and "BAM". I am scared to beat up on a stock 9" now.

There are many 9" axles in junkyards. All I did was buy another complete 9" axle for $100 and just swapped it in. Way cheaper and quicker than starting from scratch.

That will work, it looks like you'll also need a housing since the bearing cap is cracked. While your there, I would install new bearings and seals. I would also find someone who is experienced in rebuilding diffs to set it up so you know that it is right.

Ok so I now am going to buy a new center section case. Just the case nothing else.... I see 2 different types. Do we have the large bearing? The 2 different ones I see are 3.062 bore or 3.25 bore. I just want to buy the right one

Probably. How you tell is by the nuts that hold the anchor plate and brake plate in. If the wrench size for these is 3/4" then you have the big bearing.
3/8" means you have the small bearing.
This will not have any effect on what case to get. All that matters is that the axle spline count and the carrier spline count is the same.

Just upgrade to a d70,sterling or 14 bolt with a posi.
Edit:I seen you bought parts. That's a shame. I'd of gone a different route.

Just think your throwing too much $ into a 9". Another 1 ton diff could be found for $200 or less. I look at times like this to upgrade.

Go with what you know and what you can do at the time, to get it back on the road. And no more 1st gear pavement messing around. lol
