Great mod and awesome step-by-step pictorial. Another mod added to my wish list.
Reps given, wish I could give even more, this is very cool.

Really nice work. I need to do that to my third row. My youngest loves to sit back there.

Does anybody have an idea where to get the headrest guide sleeves for the Excursion? I would like to do this mod, as well, but am struggling to find the guide sleeves. Also does anybody have an idea if a headrest from 97-02 Expedition would be the same shape/ style as our second row Excursions? It looks from the picture to be the same. Thanks.

I haven't looked into this much yet myself but one thought, the Excursion middle captains seats have places to store the headrests when the seats are folded. Not sure but they might work.

From everything I've seen about this mod, some welding is needed. Luckily I have a buddy with a welder.

The storage sleeves are green in my X. I don't think they would have the locking to prevent the head rest from moving down or up.

Yeah it was just an idea. Might not work.

The 'storage pockets' are just 'holes' the headrest sinks all the way down.

Thanks for those who responded. Yes, I must agree, the storage pockets are just holes and will not lock the headrest into position. I have tried to look at some parts diagrams but none of them that I found have the headrest guide sleeves. I suppose I will continue on with the search . . .

Your seat frame is way different than mine! Weird.

However many years later, I'm still very happy with mine.

So I will ask again, does anybody have any idea how to get a hold of the headrest guide sleeves other than a junkyard? I have looked and found some with partial part #'s of 610A16 and 610A18 but I can't find out for sure if they will fit the Expedition headrests that I can obtain. Those parts were used on many Ford vehicles over the years, I believe.

Any ideas out there . . .?

Not sure if this is allowed or not but here is a link to what I am referring to as a possible match. It's just hard to tell if the metal support bars will fit into the guide sleeves:

If you click my link you will see my headrests were from an expedition and were identical. The guides worked fine too. Any you pull it yard should be full of expeditions. The explorers are different. Pics of those in my thread too.

I saw the picture of those Explorer ones and they definitely won't work like you said. The ones I linked to a couple of posts up look fairly similar but I just don't know if the metal support posts of the headrest will fit into the holes of the guide sleeve.

Just saw these responses in this thread. Not sure if you found your answer or not, but why not just pull up to the next expedition or explorer you see in a parking lot and ask them to check the headrest. Measure the posts.

Pretty sure the excursion and expedition headrests use the exact same posts. I think they are even spaced the same (same distance apart)

I am looking to also add third row head rests to our Excursion. I was thinking taking the two 2nd row headrests and transferring them to the third row while purchasing aftermarket headrests with dvd players in them into the 2nd row. I would still need a third headrest for the third row. Has anyone heard of having a body shop perform this work? Seems a bit complicated for us.
