I have a 2005 F250 5.4 3-valve. Is the SP-515 the replacement plug I want to use? I looked it up and it looks just like the plug on the RIGHT (not the left) in the photo in post #33 above.

Also - wow these are pricey plugs! Summit wants $11.97 each and Advance Auto wants over $13 a piece. Jeez! And the lisle tool is $93? Wow that seems a bit much. Do any stores loan the tool? I doubt I will use it more than once.

I am answering this very late but this is still good info for anyone stumbling upon this post. SP515 is still the latest plug yes and they are pricey. If anyone is looking at getting the lisle tool buy from amazon last I saw it was $65 not bad compared to local.

Few notes here-
-It is best to do this while the engine is warm, so after soaking the plugs overnight blow out the rest of the solvent and reinstall coils without bolts and run engine till warm.<O></O>
-Also if your ignition coil boots are brown in color and not black you have the new plug design that does not have this issue.<O></O>

What is the typical cost at getting this done at a reputable dealer?

Really don't feel like messing with this with the potential frustration of breaking and plug and being nagged by the family about why I need to be in the garage more. Plus the only time I could get around to this would be when I cannot afford the truck to be down. It's 10 degrees out an my garage is not heated.

Unless they were changed at some point. Don't forget to run a ton of Marvel Mystery oil in a low tank at high and low RPMS for a week before.

2008 was the change over year so the easiest way to tell is by the color of the coil boots if they are brown you are good to go.

Plugs are about $18 last I checked and labor will be 2.5 hours plus about .5hr for each one that breaks. So it depends on the labor rate and how many break basically. Most shops are around $100 labor rate.

So total debacle, which I would question, if all 10 broke would be around $930.....

I could deal with a few hundred for not having to do it if only a few broke.

My dealership did mine a few months ago. $200 flat rate for a 3V V-8 (parts included) plus $50 for each broken plug.

mid year 2008 vehicles and newer have the new plug design. Anything with brown coil boots and you know right away you are ok.
