White Lightnin' Build thread (88 F150 4x4)

Brad the sun has damages in the interior as the truck was in Pheonix area new and that caused the interior to start to get sun faded (luckly not to bad). Our 02 F250 and our 85 Chevy G20 has a black interior and never gets hot in them. I will still take your words under consideration though as I don't want to go to crazy on the interior.

Black ABSORBS the sun, it is a scientific fact. Lighter colors REFLECT

If you ARE then black and Orange are their colors. But last I checked, harley Davidson wasn't paying for advertising for them

I must say that I agree with Brad. I don't get the "Harley" thing. I get riding one, just not the stickers, jackets, flags, tattoos, belt buckles, window decal, teddy bears, underwear, t-shirts, hats, hoodies, chaps and on and on.
For me, if I like something, I'd own it and that's about it.
I guess ultimately, it's your truck so who am I to suggest what you do. I'll just say I don't get the fascination.

Like I said I don't want to go to crazy with Harley stuff just want some stuff to show my love for Harleys plus being I will use this truck or our 02 to tow my Harley or my dad's Harley. Plus I rarely see Harley styled trucks in my are actually only seen one in the 3 1/2 year I have lived in my area and I like things to stand out.

A hot day in Show Low is 90 degrees or so. I have personally seen 122 degrees in Phoenix. The density altitude was too great (at 1100 feet ASL) to launch jets from the 11,000 foot runway, so Sky Harbor Airport shut down that day.
Show Low, Pine, Strawberry, Payson, Young, all of them are on or above the Mogollon (MOE gy own) Rim. That's some 4500 feet or so above sea level. Sorta' hard to believe sometimes that they are in the same state as Phoenix and Tucson.

Ok so this morning I jumped out there really quick and replaced all the rubber components for the tailgate on the bed and tailgate. I didn't want to get under the hood today being it is a little windy and since I have to pull the plug to find TDC I don't want dirt getting in the engine and making more problems. Will update when more progress.
I did find some pics of trucks with 33s and fender flares looks perfect in my opinion. They don't stick out and are in just a bit. I wanted that so that mud doesn't get all over the place and ruin things.

I definitely agree Trav. With the right backspacing on wheels with 33s, flares make a nice looking truck.

Well today went out there was going to time the truck but found out my battery is dead and right now I don't have a charger so x out that plan.
Then I decided I would check out the wiring they did on the wiring harness for the radio. Whomever did it didn't know what they were doing as it is a hack job with wiring everywhere and tape. So right now gonna leave that alone but probably when it comes time that I get a radio (since I will be running an aftermarket one) I am gonna take the old harness out and just wire it the way I always do on custom set ups like this. Unfortunately my parts dash is just as bad off so I can't use it (as far as the wirring harness).
Did also clean the chrome tip a bit better as it was starting to rust but didn't get a pic. Maybe later I will get outside and do some more work but I need to get to work on my bike too today so I don't know.
Bob do you think 33s on these wheels will be good looking and safe? I like these style wheels which is why I am asking. I have 3 more of these same wheels and 2 of those have 31s.

Do you know how wide they are, and what the backspacing is? General rule of thumb is, for a 33x12.5 tire, you want a rim width anywhere between 8.5 and 11 inches. From the pics, it looks as though the rims that are on there with the 235s are near stock width, 7.5 inches.
It wouldn't be dangerous to mount 33s on them, plenty of people have done it with no issues. They may rub a little on the radius arms, because it looks like those rims are about the same as stock backspacing, but as long as you keep that in mind when turning, you shouldn't have any issues.

I believe they are 15x7.5 with stock backspacing but not sure. I figured their would be rubbing even after a leveling kit but I don't mind. I rarely turn full lock anyways the 86 F150 above I think I turned full lock only when backing trailers up. I got these wheels on the truck then 1 on our parts truck then 2 more I bought for $5-$10 for both with decent 235s (the rears on there now). If I were to change wheels I know I want to stay 15s or possibly go to 16s but that's it prefer more tire then wheel.
Also found a black with lightly smoked lens cab (above slidding rear) light cover. All I need now is to run some wires and get the bulb and such to have that light along with mount it shouldn't be to hard to do. I think this black one looks better then the chrome one I have on our 89s (chrome on plastic peals hence why I have a black grille also.)

I think those will work out fine. The only issue you may see is the tire wearing more in the center than the edges, because it's mounted on a narrower wheel. Adjusting air pressure so the tread sits flat will help with that problem.
As far as wheel sizes go, I'm not a fan of anything larger than 17s on the vintage of trucks we have. I have 17s on mine, mainly because I found them dirt cheap, and 17" tires are more readily available (and sometimes cheaper) around here.

Ya 17s possibly but the smaller the wheel the better (just as long as I am not running golf car size wheels with huge tires) LOL.
Bob which one do you think I should do when I get tires the 33 12.50s or 33 10.50s. I know I want BFG Kos and they have both which is why I am trying to decide (have lots of time to decide as need her running and to save up for stuff like that).
Really quick just to verify to time the truck I need to find TDC which I can by pulling #1 plug and cranking the truck over till I feel the gush of air being I don't know where TDC is on this truck. Then I would set the timing light up (I have a regular cheapo one) and set the timing to about 10* BTDC. Then I should be good.
I know as of right now I don't have gas (and right now don't have money for gas being I spent a bit much on my bike) so if I get it done now I wouldn't be able to test it if that is for sure what is wrong but I wouldn't doubt that is being everything leads to that.
