Battery Replacement

Battery Replacement
I just replaced my OEM batteries and the driver side battery did not have the blanket on it, only the passenger side battery had a blanket on it. I'm the second owner of the truck and I'm not sure if the blanket was taken off somewhere along the line.
Should both batteries have a blanket on them?
Also curious to know what kind of battery life other people are getting?
I got 4 years 1 month on the original batteries with 69,000 miles. Truck is 2010 model year with a manufacture date of 10/09
My replacement batteries are the Motorcraft 850 CCA. They came with the 36 month free replacement and 100 month pro-rated warranty. Cost was 130.00 each at my local ford dealership. I thought for the price, CCA, & warranty that wasn't a bad price.
Thanks for the help!

thats a good price on FoMoCo batteries! i think the interstate mtp-65 is $150. I know my batteries had been replaced last summer in my truck before we got it so that would be around the 5 year mark. who knows how long before the truck was made that the battery was sitting on the shelf. Interstate MTP-65 is 30-month free replacement and six-year performance(pro-rated warranty), also 850 CCA
Also half the time the battery blankets get left behind and not put on the new battery i dono if i would loose any sleep over it tho. not sure if you can get a new one or not?

The driver side batteries were not equipped with a battery insulating blanket, for whatever reason. Have seen at least 30 of the 6.4's and none of them had battery blankets on the driver side battery. Also, battery life on the 6.4's has been an issue for some models. For instance, on my '08 Job 1 my batteries died out at 47000, replaced them with red top Optima's and have had no issues. Except that at 79,000 my alternator went out. Replaced it myself with a price of 478 for the alternator from Ford. No one else had one. So if you have gotten that much life out of your batteries consider yourself lucky. I made my own battery insulating blanket for the driver side battery as it gets pretty hot from the radiator hoses and the EGR coolers.

I had 5 years on my OEM batteries and closer to 100K miles.

[QUOTE=Larry NCKS;13770764]Driver's side battery does not have a blanket. Guess they figure the other battery is in a location that's subject to more heat. Few things are more detrimental to a battery than high heat.

Good to know, I may look into getting a battery blanket for the drivers side.

When I replaced my batteries the blanket had a number of tears in it. I used some of the Reflectix insulation and fabricated my own replacement. The Reflectix is only rated up to 180 degrees, but so far so good. It is not showing any signs of any deterioration.

My '08 was built 1/08 and i just replaced the passenger side battery at 63,000 miles. The driver side still has the green dot and the truck is starting fine even in the 30 degree temps we're currently having. I'm keeping an eye on the drivers side because I figure it might not last much longer.

the problem is i believe if the older battery does go bad say in the summer time when you dont need near as much cranking power for the glow plugs and starter trying to turn the engine over with thick oil, you may not notice that one battery is bad, and a bad battery could take out the other battery

if you haven't replace the left battery you should get it load tested it will probably will show low cranking amps. the right battery in my truck went and over worked the alternator and cooked it, put one new battery in and the dealership did a load test on the left battery and it was down from 750cca to 400cca so i replace that battery also. my batteries were in for six years
