Lol, pretty sure I saw them in a recon ad in my diesel power mag. I think I like the amber better, but I've never seen the blue in person come to think about it....

It depends on state law, here in Kansas you can only have white or amber colored lights shining towards the front of the vehicle. So here, yea you sure can.

Now, I'm not 100% on DOT codes however. If you have a dually or a DOT certified truck.....those guys may have something different to say about not having amber clearance lights.

Personally smoked or clear lenses with amber led's look the best.

It's illegal if it's a dually, the clearance and identification lights are specified for a vehicle over 80" wide and must be a DOT approved amber. If it's SRW, it might be legal but probably is off-road only. It's in here: FMVSS No. 108 Full Text in Table I and Table II, towards the end of the document. Federal law, covers all states. Canada has CMVSS, says about exactly the same thing, again a federal law.

I tried to cut and paste, but it got stupid. The requirement is for vehicles over 80" wide, three identification lights on the center line of the vehicle, as high as practical, between 6" and 12" apart, and DOT approved amber colour. Also clearance lights, one on each corner as close to the outside edge of the top of the cab as possible, DOT approved amber. DOT has specifications for the lights in terms of colour and brightness, and the lights need to have DOT embossed on them.

For me, driving around in a vehicle that has big bright lights on top that say "I'm illegal, stop me!" is kinda silly. I like to be inconspicuous...

Edit: for vehicles under 80" , the clearance and indentification lights aren't required, but there are other regulations that govern white lights that say you can't have over two on, unless they are high beam headlights or fog lights with low beam headlights. So five white lights on top of the cab are "off-road only". You can have them (same as a row of lamps on your head-ache bar) but you can't legally turn them on if driving on a road. Now that you know the law, go forth and do what you will!

In addition to my post above on amber vs white clearance and identification lights, someone asked about blue clearance lights. Also illegal but in a more serious way - in most if not all states blue lights are reserved for police and emergency vehicles. Running blue lights on the exterior of a vehicle (including the neon/LED runners that glow under a car) is illegal and can get you on the hook for impersonating a peace officer. In some places (Ontario for sure) flashing blue lights are reserved for snow removal vehicles, which can be private vehicles.
