I pulled a banks kit, wasnt too bad other than the down pipe was siezed to the exhaust system, the sawzall worked awesome to cut the pipe... not much room for a hacksaw.

9/16" socket for the cross over pipe nuts...should be 9/16 or possibly 5/8 to the intake hat bolt....7/16 for the down pipe v-band clamp....i believe 1/2 for bolts that hold the drain pedestal to the intake mani...adjustable wrench will be sufficient for un-doing the oil feed line nuts..valve cover bolts are either 7/16 or 1/2...air filter box bolts that hold it to the intake mani are 9/16 or 5/8...not sure what size the nuts are that hold the exhaust pipe to the end of the down pipe, but i wanna say 9/16..wouldn't be a bad idea to take a dead blow hammer and a pry bar with you as well. pulling the turbos on these trucks are really quite easy(factory turbos at least).

It was 5/8 for all but the down pipe to the rest of the exhaust I got 99% of everything I couldn't get the up pipe out.... It's an e4od so I'm guessing I have to drop the back of the transmission down to get the up pipe out?

Has anyone pulled a complete turbo from a 6.9 or 7.3 with a 2 wheel drive e4od? Do I need to drop the backside of the transmission or is there some truck to getting it out?

no need to touch the trans....

i found that i had to pull the trans dipstick tube out of the trans....

Do you have the y-collector off of the up-pipe? if not then you are not getting that out the top. Now if you do have that off and just the up-pipe is hooked to the turbo then with a little twisting you should be able to pull the turbo/up-pipe combo right now without issue.

Pulling a Turbo off a 1990 7.3 IDI was a complete pain for me due to clearance issues between engine and firewall.

It might, I know I had a cherry picker pulling up on the turbine assembly while using a shaft and hammer to break free the exhaust down assembly.

Took awhile but after they were separated, made access and such a lot easier.

Took me about 24hrs to remove the turbo from the engine, after swapping engines, with the pain it was to remove the turbo, I didn't want the headache of putting it into my truck so I'm selling it.

hahaha i hear ya! however, your only saying that because you must not have driven a turbocharged idi yet.
though it can seem like a total PITA! (and it is really) it's worth the effort and when all installed, you'll have no regrets of the time spent and bloody knuckles.so get wrenching!

I drove the donor truck a bit, didn't notice too much, my work truck is a Banks Turbo 7.3 Powerstroke, I notice the turbo on that, especially hauling 1500 gallons up a hill boosting 20psi.

My truck has plenty of get up and go without a turbo (85 F350 4dr C6 7.3), it works, I may get a turbo down the road but I'll probably make something custom that is easy to access and get at.

Honestly if it wasn't for the slip joint being seized it would of been good!... And FYI it almost created enough room I got it almost out and the realized that it was only about 1/4-1/2 from coming out so I got it almost out and then used the jack to force the trans back up and bend the lip out of the way and I was able to get it out at that point, but it still took some finagling and it is finally out I have all the parts and it took me a total of 8 hours for removal and laying in dirt or gravel wouldn't of been so bad... First 5 was spent laying in oil soaked muddy mess (Friday) last 3 was spent on styrofoam trying to avoid the nasty oil greasy coolant and water puddle that was under the truck because of a storm we had
